Our work spans government multi-sensor programs and commercial deployments focused on data sovereignty and lower cloud costs. Mechanical Drafters here work directly with senior staff, own real design work, and watch parts move from CAD to prototype to fielded hardware. UET is small, hands-on, and growing, with a new presence taking shape in Sarasota/Bradenton, Florida.
Location & Work Model
This role is fully remote to start, with the expectation of moving to a hybrid schedule once UET opens its planned office in the Sarasota/Bradenton, Florida area. We are prioritizing candidates based in (or willing to relocate to) the Tampa–Sarasota region who can transition to hybrid work in the near future. Full-time is preferred; we're open to exceptional part-time candidates who are a strong fit.
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Drafter / CAD Detailer to create 3D models and precise production drawings using SolidWorks. In this role, you will work closely with the engineering team to transform rough concepts, sketches, and engineering specifications into clear, manufacturing-ready drawing packages compliant with ASME Y14.5M standards.
Key Responsibilities
3D Modeling & Drafting: Build accurate 3D models for mechanical parts and assemblies in SolidWorks and generate detailed 2D manufacturing drawings.
Standards Compliance: Apply ASME Y14.5M guidelines and basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to specify critical features, fits, and surface finishes.
Drawing Package Maintenance: Create and update detail drawings, assembly views, exploded diagrams, and Bills of Materials (BoMs).
Engineering Support: Assist engineers with simple tolerance checks, fit checks, and drawing redlines/updates.
Data & Revision Management: Maintain organized CAD file structures, track design changes, and execute Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to change a product after it has been released.
Required Qualifications
Education/Experience: Associate’s degree in Mechanical Drafting, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), or 1–3 years of hands-on mechanical drafting/detailing experience.
Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks (part design, assembly modeling, and drafting tools).
Standards & GD&T: Functional understanding of ASME Y14.5M drafting standards and GD&T symbols/principles.
Technical Skills: Ability to read engineering markups, redlines, and technical specifications accurately.
Manufacturing Knowledge: Familiarity with basic machining operations, sheet metal fabrication, and hardware standards.
Work Authorization: Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using 3DEXPERIENCE PDM, SolidWorks PDM, or similar CAD data management software.
Basic understanding of hardware libraries, standard fasteners, and thread callouts.
