Role Description The General Accountant will perform day-to-day accounting activities to support accurate financial reporting and compliance with company policies and relevant regulations. This part-time remote role includes responsibilities such as recording journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting with month-end and year-end close processes, and maintaining general ledger accuracy. The role also involves preparing and reviewing financial reports, supporting internal and external audits, and ensuring proper documentation of financial transactions. The General Accountant will collaborate with finance and project teams to monitor budgets, track expenses, and address accounting inquiries. The successful candidate will work independently while coordinating with colleagues through virtual meetings and digital tools.
Qualifications
Demonstrated skills in general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, and journal entry preparation.
Experience in financial reporting, budgeting support, and assisting with month-end and year-end close processes.
Knowledge of standard accounting principles (GAAP or equivalent) and familiarity with audit preparation and documentation.
Proficiency with accounting software and related tools (e.g., ERP systems, spreadsheets, and financial databases).
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of financial information.
Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; relevant professional certifications are a plus.
Experience in a research, nonprofit, or government-focused organization is beneficial but not required.
