Breadly is building an AI financial assistant that does more than tell people where their money went.
We want to build the product people trust to understand their finances, help them make better decisions, and increasingly take care of the financial admin they should not have to think about.
The end goal is financial admin on autopilot.
We are looking for a Founding Engineer to help us build it.
Breadly
Personal finance software has barely changed.
Most products give people more information, more charts and more things to manage themselves.
We think AI changes what a financial product can actually do.
Breadly is being built to understand someone's financial life, identify what matters, help them make better decisions and increasingly get things done for them.

A working product being used by closed beta users
Open banking and financial data integrations live
400+ people on our waitlist
50+ customer interviews completed
Acceptance into Techstars Founder Catalyst
New Frontiers Phase 2 backing
Seedcorn Northern Ireland regional finalist status
Hundreds of thousands of organic views without paid acquisition
Early opportunities developing across employers, financial institutions and distribution partners
The foundations are there.
Now we want to make Breadly significantly smarter, more capable and more automated.
The role
This is not a normal software engineering job.
You will work directly with the founders and have a major influence over how Breadly is built.
You will ship production software.
You will make architecture decisions.
You will help decide how we use AI across the product.
You will work on the systems that move Breadly from simply understanding financial information towards being able to safely automate and execute more work for users.
And as the company grows, you will help shape the engineering team around you.
We want someone who can move comfortably between product and engineering.
Someone who can understand the problem we are trying to solve, work out the right technical approach and then actually build it.
What you'll work on
The problems are broad and genuinely interesting.
You could be working on:
Core product architecture
AI-powered product experiences
AI agents, automation and execution
Financial data infrastructure
Open banking and third-party integrations
Backend systems and APIs
Mobile and web product development
Security, permissions and reliability
Making the product faster, smarter and more scalable
Some problems already have clear solutions.
Others do not.
That is part of the opportunity.
Our stack
Our current product is built primarily with:

Open banking and financial data APIs
You do not need to have used every technology in our stack.
We care much more about whether you can build excellent products and make good technical decisions.
Who we're looking for
You are a builder.
You have probably spent several years shipping real software and taking responsibility for what happens after it reaches production.
You care about the product, not just the code.
You can move quickly without creating a mess behind you.
You are comfortable making decisions without a huge engineering organisation around you.
And you like the idea of joining a company where the technical decisions you make today could still matter years from now.
You will likely have several of these:
Strong full-stack engineering experience
Excellent TypeScript / JavaScript skills
Strong knowledge of APIs, databases and backend systems
Experience owning production systems
Experience building products from scratch
Good architecture and systems thinking
Strong product judgement
Experience working in a startup or small engineering team
Experience with AI, LLMs or agentic systems
Experience in fintech, payments or financial services
Strong instincts around security and privacy
You do not need to tick every box.
We are much more interested in what you have actually built and how you think.

The founding team
Breadly was founded by James Kirwan and Georgia Heaney.
James is a qualified accountant with experience across finance and fintech.
Georgia comes from product and growth, having worked with startups and scale-ups on building and growing products.
We have spent the last year building Breadly, talking directly to users, developing the product and creating the foundations for the company we want to build.
Engineering is the next major piece of that team.
Compensation
We want to be upfront.
Breadly is currently bootstrapped and preparing for its next stage of funding.
This initially needs to be an equity-based founding role rather than a conventional salaried engineering position.
We are open to someone joining consistently part-time alongside their existing role initially.
As the company grows and funding allows, our intention is for this to develop into a paid full-time engineering leadership position.
We are looking for someone who wants to build the company with us, rather than simply take another engineering job.
Location
We are deliberately keeping the founding team local.
You must:
Currently be based on the island of Ireland
Already have the right to work in Ireland or the UK
Not require visa sponsorship from Breadly
Be able to meet the founders in Belfast, Newry or Dublin when needed
Day to day, we are flexible about where you work.
