NOTE:- Position is remote but the candidate has to work from CO (should be able to relocate to CO)
Job Description
OIT is seeking a skilled Power BI Developer to support its Business Intelligence (BI) Program. The Power BI Developer will be responsible for gathering business requirements, developing data models, creating interactive reports and dashboards, connecting to various data sources, optimizing Power BI solutions, and supporting deployment through Power BI Service.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with business users and data analysts to understand requirements and business objectives for reports, visualizations, and underlying data models.
Identify relevant data sources and attributes required for reporting and analytics.
Reverse-engineer existing business processes developed using Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis, and recommend process and logic improvements.
Design and document conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
Develop reusable semantic data models within Power BI.
Implement row-level and column-level security within Power BI semantic models.
Create relationships between tables and optimize data structures.
Use Tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer to follow data modeling and DAX best practices.
Connect Power BI to various data sources, including APIs, BigQuery, ArcGIS map and feature layers, SQL databases, Excel files, and streaming datasets.
Work with the OIT Integrations team to determine appropriate integration patterns.
Develop DAX formulas, calculated columns, measures, and custom calculations.
Design and develop interactive and visually appealing Power BI reports and dashboards.
Implement slicers, visuals, drill-through functionality, streaming visuals, and ArcGIS visuals.
Optimize Power BI reports and underlying data models for performance using DAX Studio and built-in Power BI performance tools.
Publish reports to the Power BI Service.
Manage access controls and automated refresh schedules.
Optimize Power BI reports for large datasets.
Utilize AI tools and technologies to enhance processes and improve data-analysis workflows. Experience with Google AI tools is a plus.
Follow organizational source and version-control practices for Power BI files.
Utilize Azure DevOps as appropriate within the development and version-control process.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical users.
Present complex data insights and reports to stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
Participate in meetings, screen-sharing sessions, working sessions, and backlog discussions.
Gather and incorporate changing business requirements as needed.
Requirements
Strong Power BI development experience.
Strong understanding of data modeling and Power BI semantic models.
Proficiency with DAX.
Experience with Power BI Service and report deployment.
Experience with Power BI security, including row-level and column-level security.
Experience optimizing Power BI reports and data models.
Experience with DAX Studio and Tabular Editor.
Experience connecting Power BI to APIs, BigQuery, ArcGIS, SQL databases, Excel, and/or streaming datasets.
Strong Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
Familiarity with Azure DevOps and source/version control.
Ability to gather requirements and work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Familiarity with AI tools and technologies; Google AI experience is a plus.
