About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

About Exoserva
Exoserva is building an AI-native operations platform for field-service businesses. The product brings customer communication, scheduling, dispatch, jobs, estimates, invoices, payments, mobile workflows, integrations, and AI-assisted operations into one system.
We test the product against real operating workflows rather than treating field service as an abstract software category. Our goal is straightforward: help service businesses run with clearer ownership, faster customer response, reliable execution, and less administrative friction.
Exoserva is a remote company. This posting is for candidates located in the United States. The role requires meaningful overlap with US business hours, including at least four working hours with Pacific Time on most weekdays.
Compensation
$190,000–$240,000 USD base salary per year. Final compensation will depend on relevant experience, role scope, employment structure, and location. Any additional compensation or benefits will be discussed transparently during the process.
The role
We are looking for a hands-on Head of Engineering to build the engineering organization around a substantial Node.js and TypeScript product. This is not a role for managing tickets from a distance. You will own architecture, engineering accountability, code and service ownership, review discipline, release quality, incident practices, and development of a senior engineering team.
The immediate challenge is to turn a broad, fast-moving product into a system with clear domain boundaries, independent review, reliable releases, and named primary and backup owners. You will work directly with the founder, customer leadership, and senior engineers.
What you will own
• Establish clear ownership for services, domains, releases, incidents, and critical customer workflows.
• Create an architecture and engineering-risk map for the multi-tenant platform.
• Build a review system where feature authors do not independently accept their own work.
• Improve PR cycle time, P0/P1 aging, release reliability, observability, and incident follow-through.
• Define standards for tenant isolation, migrations, billing and data integrity, APIs, integrations, testing, and production access.
• Hire, coach, and organize a small senior, AI-native engineering team.
• Use AI development tools productively while requiring independent evidence for generated output.
• Communicate tradeoffs clearly to product, customer, and business owners.
What we are looking for
• Engineering leadership in a production B2B SaaS company with complex operational workflows.
• Strong architectural depth in Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, APIs, and multi-tenant systems.
• Evidence of personally improving release quality, incident response, ownership, and engineering throughput.
• Experience leading senior engineers while remaining technically credible and hands-on when needed.
• Sound security and customer judgment, especially around production access and data integrity.
• Clear written communication in a distributed environment.
• Comfort working in an early-stage company where facts may be incomplete and risks must be made explicit.
Experience with GCP, payments, communications or voice systems, mobile field workflows, workflow automation, or vertical SaaS is useful but not required in every area.
First 90 days
You will produce an accepted architecture and ownership map, establish primary and backup owners for critical systems, implement independent PR, release, and incident gates, and demonstrate measurable movement in the first engineering reliability metrics.
Hiring process
The process includes an initial conversation, a deep functional interview, a paid bounded work sample using synthetic or redacted context, a cross-functional panel, and substantive reference checks. We evaluate ownership, professional depth, quality and risk judgment, customer understanding, remote communication, and responsible use of AI tools.
Exoserva evaluates candidates based on role-related evidence and does not discriminate on any basis protected by applicable law. If you need a reasonable accommodation during the hiring process, let us know through the LinkedIn application.
