Senior AV Consultant
📍 Remote – Southern California
This is not a typical AV design role.
We’re hiring a Senior AV Consultant in Southern California to lead audiovisual design for healthcare, higher education, and other complex project environments. You’ll help shape how spaces work from early user conversations through design, construction, commissioning, and activation. You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team while providing the technical leadership, judgment, coordination, and client communication needed to keep projects moving forward.

About the Role
This is a full-time, home-based position for someone located in Southern California, with regular travel to client sites throughout the region for meetings, assessments, construction-phase activities, and system testing.
You’ll lead the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of high-touch AV projects ranging from conference rooms and classrooms to simulation centers, auditoriums, and hybrid learning environments. The role combines technical expertise, project leadership, and client engagement, supported by a collaborative team of subject matter experts, designers, and production staff.
What You’ll Do
Lead AV projects from planning through design, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
Advise clients on AV strategy, room standards, conferencing platforms, and long-term technology planning.
Lead stakeholder workshops and translate user needs into practical AV solutions and design requirements.
Serve as technical project manager, managing scope, design approach, work plans, deliverables, schedules, priorities, and client expectations.
Develop and oversee AV drawings, signal flow and riser diagrams, rack elevations, specifications, narratives, reports, and cost estimates using company standards and resources.
Coordinate AV requirements including equipment sizing and mounting, sightlines, and network/power infrastructure with architects, engineers, facilities teams, and IT departments.
Lead client and project meetings, communicate recommendations clearly, document decisions, and move open issues toward resolution.
Review drawings and deliverables for technical accuracy, coordination, constructability, project requirements, and applicable AVIXA performance standards.
Support construction through submittal and RFI review, coordination meetings, job walks, installation observation, system commissioning, and punch lists.
Identify project risks and coordination challenges early and develop practical solutions.
Provide direction and mentorship to designers and production staff supporting you during AV design delivery.
What We’re Looking For
5+ years of experience in AV consulting, design, or engineering for the built environment, with demonstrated experience leading projects.
Strong client-facing, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to explain technical issues and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong knowledge of AV systems including video conferencing and unified communications, DSP and audio reinforcement, video distribution, control systems, displays and projection, and assistive listening.
Experience managing project scope, schedules, deliverables, client expectations, and internal project teams.
Experience coordinating AV systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, acoustical, lighting, and IT disciplines.
Working knowledge of AVIXA standards, ADA requirements related to AV, construction documents, specifications, and the A/E/C project delivery process.
Familiarity with Revit and AutoCAD, with the ability to effectively direct, review, and mark up design documentation.
Willingness to travel to client offices, project sites, and team events throughout Southern California.
You don’t need to have mastered every aspect of the role on day one. If you have a strong AV foundation, good judgment, and the ability to lead projects and clients, we’re interested in people who want to continue expanding their technical and consulting skills.
Nice to Have
CTS-D strongly preferred; CTS, CTS-I, RCDD, or other relevant industry certifications are a plus.
Experience with major AV platforms and manufacturers such as Crestron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Extron, and Shure, as well as Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms.
Experience with healthcare simulation, lecture capture, broadcast, or large-venue systems.
Experience with design-build, progressive design-build, or other alternative project delivery methods.
