Finance Officer - AU Client

A Xero-certified accountant who can own a complete finance function solo — daily operations, payroll, BAS, and month-end — without being managed through every step. If that describes you, read on.
THE ROLE
This is a sole-charge accounting position supporting a single Xero entity within an accounting, financial reporting, and bookkeeping firm. You will be the engine of the finance function — handling everything from daily bank reconciliation through to month-end close and management reporting, with full ownership and no hand-holding. The work is structured, recurring, and consequential, requiring someone who can assess the state of the books independently, identify what needs fixing, and execute without waiting to be told.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
▸Perform daily bank reconciliation and maintain full-cycle bookkeeping for a single Xero entity.
▸Manage accounts receivable end-to-end, including active follow-up on outstanding collections.
▸Process accounts payable and manage ongoing supplier relationships.
▸Run weekly payroll and superannuation processing in compliance with Australian requirements.
▸Operate direct-debit billing through GoCardless, including reconciliation and exception management.
▸Lodge monthly BAS and manage all GST obligations accurately and on time.
▸Execute month-end close and produce the management reporting pack.
WHAT YOU BRING
✔Demonstrated Xero proficiency, with Xero Advisor and Xero Payroll certifications held and current — these are prerequisites, not preferences.
✔Solid working knowledge of Australian GST and BAS obligations, including lodgement processes and compliance requirements.
✔Payroll compliance experience covering superannuation, pay runs, and Australian legislative requirements.
✔Hands-on experience with direct-debit billing platforms, with GoCardless experience viewed favourably.
✔The proven ability to assess a set of books independently, identify problems, and execute a remediation plan without escalating every decision.
✔A track record of operating autonomously in a sole-charge or near-sole-charge finance function.
