Supply Chain & Commercial Manager – Polymers
Location: Mumbai / Ahmedabad
Industry: Polymer Trading & Distribution
Reporting to: Director / Founder
1. Role Purpose
To manage the end-to-end supply chain for polymer imports, ensuring timely sourcing, shipment, customs clearance, inventory availability and customer delivery at the optimum landed cost.
The role will act as the key coordination point between overseas suppliers, shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs/CHA, warehouses, customers, sales and finance teams.
1. Key Responsibilities
A. Overseas Sourcing & Supplier Coordination
* Coordinate with polymer suppliers in China and other overseas markets.
* Place and monitor purchase orders.
* Follow up on production readiness and shipment schedules.
* Negotiate/coordinate shipment terms, payment terms and delivery commitments
* Maintain supplier performance records.
* Escalate delays and commercial issues to management.
B. Import & Shipping Management
* Coordinate complete import process from order confirmation to delivery.
* Liaise with shipping lines, freight forwarders and CHA/customs agents.
* Monitor vessel booking, ETD, ETA, transshipment and port operations.
* Track BL, commercial invoice, packing list, COO and other import documentation.
* Coordinate telex release / original BL requirements.
* Monitor IGM, customs clearance and port documentation.
* Ensure timely clearance to avoid demurrage, detention and other avoidable costs.
C. Customer Order Fulfilment
* Coordinate customer requirements with sales and procurement.
* Plan material availability against customer delivery commitments.
* Track customer orders from confirmation through final delivery.
* Proactively communicate shipment delays and revised ETAs.
* Coordinate with customers regarding delivery schedules and documentation.
D. Inventory & Warehouse Management
* Maintain inventory planning based on sales orders and expected demand.
* Monitor stock levels, ageing and slow-moving inventory.
* Coordinate warehouse receipts and dispatches.
* Ensure proper reconciliation of physical and book inventory.
* Minimise stock-outs and excess inventory.
E. Landed Cost & Commercial Control
* Prepare and monitor landed-cost calculations for imported polymers.
* Track product cost, freight, insurance, customs duty, port expenses, clearing charges and other costs.
* Compare estimated versus actual landed cost.
* Identify opportunities for freight and logistics cost optimisation.
* Coordinate with finance for supplier payments, advances, LC and other trade-finance requirements.
F. Supply Chain Planning
* Prepare weekly/monthly shipment and availability plans.
* Maintain an order-wise supply-chain tracker.
* Monitor supplier-wise and customer-wise commitments.
* Identify potential supply gaps well in advance.
* Develop alternative suppliers/logistics options where required.
G. Problem Resolution
* Handle shipment delays, documentation discrepancies, quality/quantity claims and logistics issues.
* Coordinate with suppliers and customers for resolution.
* Maintain proper documentation of claims and commercial settlements.
* Escalate material commercial risks to management.

1. Candidate Profile
Experience:
Preferably 3-4 years of experience in supply chain, import/export, logistics or commercial operations.
Industry preference:
* Polymers / petrochemicals
* Chemicals
* Plastics
* Packaging
* Commodity trading
* Import-oriented businesses
Experience in polymer trading would be an advantage.
1. Knowledge & Skills
The candidate should have practical knowledge of:
* Import/export procedures
* Incoterms – FOB, CFR, CIF/CNF etc.
* Shipping and container logistics
* Customs clearance
* DGFT/IEC-related processes
