Role Description The Fisheries Observer is a full-time remote role responsible for monitoring and recording fisheries activities to support sustainable management and regulatory compliance. Day-to-day tasks include collecting detailed catch and bycatch data, documenting fishing methods and effort, and verifying adherence to relevant guidelines and regulations. The role involves preparing clear, timely reports, entering and validating data in designated systems, and communicating observations to supervisors and project coordinators. The Fisheries Observer will collaborate with internal teams and external partners, follow established safety protocols, and maintain objectivity and confidentiality in all data collection activities. Occasional travel or field visits may be required, depending on project needs.
Qualifications
Ability to accurately collect, record, and interpret fisheries or environmental data, with strong observational and analytical skills.
Proficiency in using digital tools and databases for data entry, reporting, and remote collaboration.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and interacting with team members and stakeholders.
Knowledge of basic fisheries science, marine ecology, or environmental sciences; prior experience in fieldwork or monitoring is beneficial.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage time effectively, and follow standardized procedures and regulatory guidelines.
Commitment to safety, ethical conduct, and maintaining impartiality when observing and documenting operational practices.
Relevant education such as a degree or coursework in biology, marine science, environmental science, or a related field is preferred.
