About the Role
We’re looking for a Software Engineer to help build the backend systems that power ZeroTab’s financial dashboard, analytics, and AI-driven experiences.
You’ll work on more than just individual APIs. You’ll help build the systems that connect financial data, power calculations and insights, support AI features, and turn complex financial information into something useful for users.
You’ll work closely with product, design, and frontend engineers to take features from an idea through development and into production.
What You’ll Work On
Build and maintain reliable backend services and REST APIs.
Design systems for handling financial and user data securely and reliably.
Integrate with banking, financial-data, and other external services.
Build the backend logic behind features such as Cash Runway, Subscription Radar, and What-If Calculator.
Develop services that support our AI-powered financial insights and chat experience.
Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and data flows.
Improve application performance, scalability, reliability, and data consistency.
Write clean, maintainable, and testable code.
Debug production issues and contribute to improving system reliability.
Collaborate with frontend and product teams to deliver features end-to-end.
Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical documentation and engineering practices.
What We’re Looking For
Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and system design.
Hands-on experience building backend applications and REST APIs.
Experience developing and maintaining production-grade software.
Good understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases.
Familiarity with API design, authentication, data validation, error handling, and security.
Good software engineering practices around testing, debugging, version control, and code reviews.
Ability to understand how individual features fit into a larger system.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a small, cross-functional team.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to Have

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Experience with Docker, CI/CD, and modern deployment practices.
Experience working with fintech, banking, payments, or other sensitive-data systems.
Familiarity with AI/LLM-powered applications or data-driven products.
Interest in personal finance and fintech.
