The Role
We are seeking an experienced Brand Portfolio Manager to lead brand portfolio strategy, positioning, architecture, performance management, portfolio optimization, market analysis, and brand-growth initiatives.
The ideal candidate will combine strategic brand thinking, consumer insight, commercial analysis, portfolio management, and cross-functional leadership to ensure the organization maintains a balanced, differentiated, relevant, and profitable portfolio of brands.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement brand portfolio strategies aligned with corporate growth and commercial objectives.
Establish portfolio-management frameworks covering brand architecture, positioning, roles, investment priorities, and lifecycle management.
Manage the strategic direction and performance of multiple brands across markets, customer segments, and channels.
Define clear roles for individual brands within the overall portfolio.
Evaluate brand positioning, differentiation, target audiences, value propositions, and market relevance.
Develop and maintain brand architecture, portfolio hierarchy, naming structures, and brand relationships.
Identify portfolio overlaps, gaps, cannibalization risks, and opportunities for differentiation.
Analyze market trends, consumer behavior, competitive activity, category dynamics, and emerging opportunities.
Conduct brand and category performance analysis across revenue, market share, profitability, awareness, consideration, and customer engagement.
Evaluate the strategic health and commercial potential of individual brands.
Develop brand portfolio growth strategies based on market attractiveness, customer demand, competitive positioning, and business capabilities.
Identify opportunities for brand expansion, repositioning, extension, consolidation, rationalization, or retirement.
Support the development and launch of new brands, sub-brands, products, and brand extensions.
Evaluate proposed brand extensions based on strategic fit, customer relevance, commercial potential, operational feasibility, and portfolio impact.
Assess potential cannibalization between brands, products, channels, and customer segments.
Develop strategies to maximize portfolio growth while maintaining clear brand differentiation.
Establish portfolio investment priorities across brands, markets, products, and customer segments.
Allocate brand investment based on growth potential, strategic importance, performance, and expected return.
Partner with Finance to develop brand business cases, investment scenarios, revenue forecasts, and profitability assessments.
Monitor brand budgets, marketing investment, commercial performance, and return on brand investment.
Analyze brand profitability, contribution margins, customer economics, and portfolio value.
Develop portfolio-level revenue, market-share, and profitability targets.
Monitor brand performance against strategic and commercial objectives.
Develop dashboards and executive reports covering portfolio performance, market trends, investment, risks, and opportunities.
Establish standardized brand KPIs, performance frameworks, measurement methodologies, and reporting structures.
Conduct regular brand reviews and portfolio performance assessments.
Identify underperforming brands and develop corrective strategies, turnaround plans, or investment recommendations.
Identify high-growth brands and develop strategies to accelerate scale and market penetration.
Support annual and long-term portfolio planning processes.
Develop portfolio scenarios covering market expansion, new product introductions, acquisitions, divestments, repositioning, and changes in investment levels.
Evaluate competitor portfolios, brand strategies, pricing, positioning, innovation, and market activity.
Conduct benchmarking across competitors, categories, markets, and adjacent industries.
Develop consumer and customer insights to inform brand portfolio decisions.
Partner with Research and Analytics teams to conduct segmentation, brand tracking, customer research, and market studies.
Translate consumer insights into portfolio opportunities, positioning recommendations, and investment priorities.
Coordinate with Product teams to ensure product development aligns with brand strategy and portfolio roles.
Work with Marketing and Communications teams to maintain consistent brand positioning and messaging.
Partner with Sales and Commercial teams to evaluate distribution, channel strategy, customer demand, and commercial opportunities.
Coordinate with Customer Experience teams to ensure brand promises are reflected across customer journeys and touchpoints.
Work with Design teams to maintain coherent visual identities and appropriate differentiation across the portfolio.
Establish portfolio governance covering brand decisions, investment approvals, architecture changes, naming, positioning, and strategic reviews.
Develop brand guidelines, portfolio principles, decision frameworks, and governance documentation.
Manage external brand agencies, research partners, consultants, creative agencies, and specialist suppliers.
Define partner requirements, deliverables, timelines, budgets, quality standards, and performance expectations.
Monitor agency and external-partner performance.
Ensure brand portfolio decisions consider legal, regulatory, cultural, trademark, and market requirements.
Support trademark and intellectual-property reviews associated with new brands, names, and brand extensions.
Coordinate brand portfolio initiatives across international and regional markets while allowing appropriate local adaptation.
Identify opportunities for portfolio simplification, operational efficiency, and marketing investment optimization.
Evaluate emerging technologies, consumer platforms, digital channels, and new business models that may affect brand strategy.
Assess opportunities to use AI, analytics, automation, and digital tools to improve portfolio intelligence and brand management.
Maintain brand portfolio databases, brand histories, positioning frameworks, performance records, investment plans, and strategic documentation.
Lead cross-functional portfolio projects from strategic analysis through implementation and measurement.
Present portfolio recommendations, strategic options, investment cases, and performance reviews to senior leadership.
Communicate complex portfolio decisions clearly to stakeholders across business and functional teams.
Monitor implementation of portfolio strategies and track benefits realization.
Capture lessons learned and continuously improve brand portfolio-management practices.
