Job Description – Head Teacher, Pre-Primary
Position
Head Teacher – Pre-Primary
Qualification
* B.Ed. qualification is mandatory
* NTT / Montessori / ECCE certification will be an added advantage
* Relevant experience in early childhood education, preferably in a leadership or senior teaching role
* Strong understanding of early-years pedagogy, child development, and age-appropriate teaching methodologies
Key Skills & Competencies
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Strong understanding of phonics, early literacy, language development, and foundational learning
* Sound knowledge of early childhood learning and development
* Ability to plan, implement, and review engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences
* Strong classroom management and leadership skills
* Ability to mentor, guide, and support pre-primary teachers
* Creative, patient, warm, empathetic, and child-centric approach
* Good organizational, coordination, and documentation skills
* Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and the academic leadership team
* Familiarity with activity-based, play-based, experiential, and child-led learning approaches
Key Responsibilities
Academic & Curriculum Leadership
* Lead the academic and day-to-day functioning of the Pre-Primary section
* Plan and oversee age-appropriate curriculum delivery for the early years
* Ensure effective implementation of the school’s teaching-learning philosophy and pedagogy
* Develop and review weekly and monthly lesson plans, learning experiences, and classroom activities
* Ensure strong foundations in phonics, language, communication, early literacy, numeracy, and socio-emotional development
* Encourage the use of stories, rhymes, music, movement, art, sensory activities, games, and hands-on learning experiences
* Monitor classroom practices and ensure learning remains engaging, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate
Teacher Leadership & Mentoring
* Guide, mentor, and support Pre-Primary teachers in planning and classroom delivery
* Conduct regular academic reviews and provide constructive feedback to teachers
* Support teachers in classroom management, lesson planning, assessment, and documentation
* Facilitate teacher meetings, planning sessions, and professional development initiatives
* Ensure consistency in academic practices and standards across the Pre-Primary section
Child Development & Wellbeing
* Observe and monitor children’s learning, development, behaviour, and individual needs
* Support teachers in identifying developmental gaps and planning appropriate interventions
* Ensure a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and positive learning environment
* Promote children’s independence, confidence, curiosity, creativity, and social-emotional growth
Parent Communication
* Build positive and professional relationships with parents
* Communicate effectively with parents regarding children’s learning, progress, and development
* Address parent concerns appropriately and work towards constructive solutions
* Participate in parent meetings, orientations, workshops, and school initiatives
Administration & School Responsibilities
* Maintain and oversee academic records, planning documents, observations, and other required documentation
* Coordinate Pre-Primary activities, celebrations, events, field visits, and special projects
* Collaborate with the Academic Leadership and other departments for the smooth functioning of the school
* Participate actively in staff meetings, training sessions, school events, and institutional initiatives
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of Pre-Primary systems, processes, and learning practices
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a warm, confident, and experienced early-years educator who can combine strong academic understanding with effective leadership. They should be passionate about working with young children, have excellent communication and organizational skills, and be capable of mentoring teachers while creating a joyful, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.
The candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of phonics, foundational literacy, child development, play-based and experiential learning, along with the ability to lead a Pre-Primary team with professionalism, empathy, and ownership.
