About The Role
Sentara Health is seeking a highly experienced Senior Cyber Security Microsoft Ecosystem Engineer to join our dynamic team. This fully remote position offers an exciting opportunity for cybersecurity professionals with deep expertise in Microsoft technologies, policies, and licensing. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and managing enterprise-grade security solutions to safeguard our Microsoft-based infrastructure. This includes overseeing security controls for Microsoft Office 365, Purview, Azure, Intune, and Windows endpoints. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams such as Infrastructure, IAM, GRC, cloud architects, and compliance units to proactively identify risks, develop controls, and respond effectively to emerging threats. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset, technical proficiency, and a commitment to maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our critical systems.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in cybersecurity, with a focus on Microsoft technologies, or 7+ years of experience without a degree. A degree in a related field is required for candidates with less than 7 years of experience. While there are no specific certification requirements, possessing certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Cybersecurity Architect Expert or similar is preferred. Candidates should have extensive knowledge of Microsoft 365 security features, Purview, DSPM, Azure, Intune, and Defender suite. Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation is essential. Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture, identity-based access controls, and data security practices is crucial. Strong analytical skills for threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management are necessary, along with excellent communication and documentation skills.
Responsibilities
Design, recommend, implement, and troubleshoot security controls across Microsoft 365, Purview, DSPM, Azure, Intune, EDR/Defender suite, Power Platform, and Windows Server environments.
Review and develop security policies utilizing Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, Purview, DSPM, and Defender suite to ensure compliance and security best practices.
Assess current security architectures and recommend improvements or replacements within Microsoft's ecosystem for on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.
Implement and enforce sensitivity labels, encryption, data retention, and DLP policies across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
Design and maintain integrations between security tools and platforms such as CASB, SOAR, SIEM, ServiceNow, CMDB, email gateways, and threat intelligence platforms.
Monitor security logs to support incident response, forensic investigations, and threat analysis activities.
Optimize system health, connector fidelity, data quality, and agent deployment across a large asset base.
Collaborate with teams to perform threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and incident response planning specific to Microsoft platforms.
Partner with compliance teams to meet regulatory standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, and HIPAA, supporting audit activities and documentation.
Develop operational documentation, reports, and dashboards to track security maturity and progress across security ecosystems.
Lead enterprise-wide implementation and deployment projects, coordinating technical and leadership teams effectively.
Mentor and train security engineers, contribute to architecture reviews, and improve security infrastructure.
Stay current with industry trends, Microsoft's evolving security landscape, and recommend process improvements aligned with organizational goals.
