Head of Technology — FedStone
Location: Remote (India) · Type: Full-time · Reports to: CEO
Compensation: $123,000 – $174,000 USD per year.
FedStone is building the matching layer for federal contracting — the systems that connect certified small businesses, the large contractors required to find them, and the agencies that need them, in a market where all three currently rely on word of mouth and spreadsheets. We're are building this on top of a platform that has been developed for over 20 years and is currently being used by 7 out of 10 largest healthcare enterprises and expanding the technical team now.
What you'd own
The core matching engine connecting certified small businesses to opportunities, contractors, and agencies
Credentialing and compliance tooling — licensure verification, size-status monitoring, subcontracting-plan tracking
The capture and opportunity-tracking layer that reads federal solicitations and surfaces what matters to each user
Every early infrastructure decision: stack, data architecture, security posture, and who you hire next
What we're looking for
Proven experience building and shipping a production platform — a marketplace, workflow, or compliance-heavy product, not just feature work on an existing one
Comfortable owning technical decisions end to end with a team and legacy codebase to inherit
Prior experience building marketplace, GovTech, or compliance-heavy platforms is a strong plus, not a requirement
Fluent, async-friendly communication — you'll work directly with a U.S.-based CEO and a number of global teams with some daily hours overlap
Why now
You'd be building this as an extension to a live product — the architecture decisions you make in the next six months are the ones the marketplace runs on for years. Ground floor of a new extension, real mission, real market: the government spends roughly $170 billion a year on contracts set aside for small businesses that still can't find each other.
