Role Description The Senior Accountant is a full-time remote role responsible for managing and overseeing key accounting functions that support Larned State Hospital’s financial operations. Day-to-day tasks include preparing and reviewing journal entries, maintaining general ledger accounts, and reconciling complex account balances. The role involves assisting with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, preparing financial statements and reports, and supporting budget development and monitoring. The Senior Accountant will ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, internal policies, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Additional responsibilities include analyzing variances, supporting audits with documentation and explanations, and collaborating with clinical and administrative teams to provide accurate financial information for decision-making.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess strong general accounting skills, including general ledger management, journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, and financial statement preparation.
Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making.
Candidates should have experience with compliance and regulatory reporting, preferably within government, healthcare, or other highly regulated environments.
Candidates should be comfortable working with accounting and ERP software, spreadsheets, and other financial tools, with strong attention to data accuracy and detail.
Candidates should have effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with remote colleagues across clinical, administrative, and financial teams.
Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and work independently in a remote setting.
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred; professional certification such as CPA or CMA is beneficial.
Experience in healthcare, public sector, or nonprofit accounting is advantageous, along with a commitment to ethical standards and continuous improvement.
