Role Description The Lead Software Asset Management (SAM) Technical Consultant is a remote, contract role responsible for leading end-to-end SAM initiatives for enterprise clients. This role designs and implements SAM processes, tools, and governance frameworks to ensure software compliance, cost optimization, and audit readiness. Day-to-day activities include assessing current software asset inventories, defining data models and workflows, integrating SAM tools with configuration and financial systems, and producing actionable reporting for IT and finance stakeholders. The consultant collaborates with vendor management, procurement, security, and compliance teams to support contract negotiations, license reconciliations, and risk mitigation. The role also provides technical guidance, documentation, and training to client teams to sustain SAM best practices.
Qualifications
Strong Software Development and Software Design skills to architect and customize SAM solutions and integrations.
Proficiency in Programming and Databases to manage data models, automation scripts, queries, and reporting for SAM platforms.
Experience with Testing to validate SAM tool configurations, data quality, and workflows before deployment.
Deep knowledge of software licensing models, contracts, and compliance requirements across major vendors and cloud platforms.
Hands-on experience implementing or operating SAM tools (e.g., Flexera, Snow, ServiceNow SAM, OpenIT, or similar) in complex environments.
Background in IT asset management, ITIL processes, and audit readiness for SOX, ISO/IEC, or comparable frameworks.
Ability to analyze large data sets, interpret financial and usage metrics, and present clear recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong communication, stakeholder management, and remote collaboration skills, including leading workshops and training sessions.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
