Member of Technical Staff

Build the software behind real legal work.
Irys is hiring a Member of Technical Staff to build the systems and product experiences that help legal teams research, draft, review, and collaborate. You will work on demanding engineering problems where document quality, reliability, and thoughtful design matter every day.
Full-time · Remote · United States only
Annual base salary: $180,000–$250,000 USD. Final base salary within this range depends on relevant skills, experience, and role scope.

What you will build
• Ship core product features from technical design through release and iteration, working with engineers and legal domain experts.
• Build reliable APIs, backend services, and document processing workflows that support research, drafting, review, and finished work product.
• Integrate AI capabilities into practical workflows, with attention to output quality, speed, and dependable behavior.
• Make complex document tasks easier to use through clear interfaces and close collaboration across the stack.
• Improve performance, investigate production issues, and strengthen testing, monitoring, and code quality.
• Turn user needs into focused engineering plans and explain the tradeoffs behind your decisions.
What you bring
• Experience shipping and maintaining production web applications or services.
• Strong programming skills in a modern language such as Python or TypeScript, and sound software design fundamentals.
• Experience with APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, or distributed backend systems.
• A practical approach to testing, code review, debugging, and improving systems after launch.
• Clear written communication and the ability to take responsibility for work on a distributed team.
• Curiosity about how lawyers work and the judgment to balance fast delivery with reliability.
Useful additional experience
AI or LLM integrations, document processing, workflow automation, frontend development, or products with complex data and security needs. Prior legal technology experience is helpful, but not required.
