About The Role
The GA GECC Lead Protection and Control (CCS) Engineer plays a pivotal role in executing control system engineering activities for high-voltage substations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, and timely solutions for assigned projects. This position involves leading the design and engineering of protection and control panels for EHV/HV substations, coordinating cross-functional teams, and liaising with clients and suppliers to ensure project specifications and standards are met. The engineer will oversee the entire project lifecycle—from technical calculation and design to manufacturing support and customer acceptance—while adhering to safety and environmental standards. The role demands a proactive approach to project management, technical problem-solving, and continuous improvement to optimize project outcomes and enhance customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline from a reputed university. A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in high-voltage and extra-high-voltage substation design and engineering is essential. Knowledge of GE and competitor products, substation automation systems, and digital substation communication protocols such as IEC61850, PRP, RSTP, and serial communication standards is required. Proficiency in English and/or Arabic communication skills, both written and oral, is necessary. The candidate must demonstrate the ability and willingness to travel globally without restrictions. Desired qualifications include the ability to interpret tender and contract documents, lead and guide teams, and present technical solutions effectively to clients. Strong problem-solving skills, team orientation, and adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards are also important.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this role encompass a broad spectrum of technical and managerial tasks. The engineer will execute design and engineering activities for protection and control panels in EHV/HV substations, ensuring compliance with quality, cost, and schedule requirements. They will analyze project technical requirements, propose solutions aligned with customer standards, and perform detailed technical calculations for load assessments, relay settings, and component sizing. Selection of protection relays and auxiliary materials will be based on project specifications and customer needs. The engineer will prepare, review, and submit detailed design documentation, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and support manufacturing and factory acceptance testing (FAT). Additionally, they will assist in project cost estimation, resource planning, and ensuring on-time delivery of all engineering outputs. The role also involves participating in design reviews, managing change requests, and validating designs during customer acceptance testing. The engineer will work closely with procurement to review supplier offers, support negotiations, and ensure technical compliance. Continuous improvement of design solutions, cost optimization, and adherence to safety standards are integral to the role. Effective communication with clients, addressing product issues, and providing technical support are also key responsibilities.
