FutureTech Recruitment is partnered with a Series A EdTech startup backed by mission-aligned investors. The platform has strong commercial traction across multiple US states with strong NRR and a deeply mission-driven team with deep roots in the industry they serve. Series B on the horizon within 8-12 months.
They’re hiring a Director of Engineering - Product to report directly to the CTO and co-founder, taking ownership of multiple product squads. 50/50 hands-on IC and leadership to start, shifting to 80/20 over time. Real ownership of architecture decisions, squad delivery, and cross-functional alignment across a mission-driven team.
Responsibilities
Own multiple product squads - managing engineers and driving delivery across all of them
Hands-on early - contributing code, code reviews, and pairing (~50/50 IC to leadership, shifting to 80/20 over time)
Make and land key technical architecture decisions to ensure the platform scales for the next two years of growth
Partner with Product, Customer Success, and cross-functional stakeholders to align engineering priorities to business outcomes
Ship high-value product features on time, including advancing AI-powered capabilities
Requirements
2-3+ years managing multiple engineering teams (6+ engineers) - ideally including managing other managers
Hands-on technical ability - reads, reviews, and writes code; not a pure people manager
Strong backend architecture experience - able to ramp on new stacks (React, TypeScript, Python, AWS, MongoDB)
Experience owning major business verticals, products, and business outcomes (speed, quality, growth, retention)
Startup or high-growth environment experience - comfortable with ambiguity and independent prioritisation
Strong communicator - connects technical decisions to business outcomes and drives cross-functional alignment
Mission-driven - genuine passion for the education space
Able to travel for company retreats twice a year plus 2-4 additional business trips
No new visa sponsorship required - transfers considered
