LLM Engineer

Help build AI tools for the people behind the news.
At The News Cafe, we bring media, design and AI together. Our newsroom technology product, Sanchika, helps journalists and editorial teams do their best work. We’re looking for an LLM Engineer who can turn AI capabilities into useful, reliable product experiences.
What you’ll do
Build and improve AI workflows for newsroom tasks, with attention to accuracy, language quality and editorial control.
Write, test and refine prompts, and evaluate outputs beyond whether they sound convincing.
Integrate LLMs into the product, improving reliability, speed and cost.
Work with Supabase, Vercel, AWS and GitHub to build, deploy and maintain features.
Collaborate on interfaces that make complex AI workflows simple for journalists.
What we’re looking for
Ideally, 2–3 years of relevant engineering experience, with hands-on experience building LLM applications.
Strong prompting skills and an understanding of model limitations, structured outputs and evaluation.
Practical experience with Supabase, Vercel and AWS, and confidence using GitHub for version control and code reviews.
Solid coding skills in JavaScript/TypeScript or Python, and comfort working with APIs and databases.
Ownership, curiosity and the ability to take a feature from an idea to a working product.
Good to have
An eye for UI/UX and experience building user-facing applications.
Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings or vector search.
Interest in journalism, Indian languages or multilingual AI.
Driven freshers are welcome. If you’ve built something thoughtful, experimented seriously with LLMs and can explain your decisions, we’d love to hear from you. Personal projects and open-source contributions count.
You’ll work on real newsroom problems, with room to shape both the technology and the experience.
