# Information Technology, Software Engineering, & Computer Science – 2027 Summer Internship
## About the Role
General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking highly motivated Information Technology, Computer Science, and Engineering students for its **2027 Summer Internship Program** at the Groton Shipyard. Interns will gain practical experience in the defense industry while working alongside experienced engineers and IT professionals supporting innovative technologies and systems for the United States Navy's nuclear submarine programs.
Information Technology interns may work across areas including software engineering, IT infrastructure, cybersecurity and compliance, systems engineering, project management, finance and procurement, and user production support. Interns will have opportunities to develop technical and professional skills through hands-on projects, application development, system support, requirements analysis, testing, and investigation of advanced IT and software development technologies.
## Key Responsibilities
* Support requirement analysis and software application design.
* Develop software applications, typically using Java.
* Test, maintain, and support software applications.
* Investigate advanced IT and software development technologies.
* Support software engineering initiatives involving computer-aided automation tools, CAD, PLM, automated views, labels, dimensions, design and manufacturing interfaces, and rules-based automation.
* Support IT infrastructure activities involving networks, servers, desktops, and storage.
* Assist with cybersecurity and compliance activities, including monitoring systems for vulnerabilities and supporting remediation plans.
* Support hardware and software certification activities.
* Work with business customers to gather and document requirements for changes to business systems.
* Support IT systems serving engineering, operations, warehousing, and planning functions.
* Assist the Project Management Office with IT projects involving software and hardware solutions.
* Support finance and procurement activities related to software and hardware for new projects and ongoing operations and maintenance.
* Provide user production support and develop subject-matter expertise in design and engineering tools.
* Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
* Work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
* Learn new skills and apply them to assigned projects.

## Required Qualifications
* Must be **18 years of age or older**.
* **U.S. citizenship is required.**
* Currently pursuing a **Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering**.
* Must be enrolled **full-time** at a college or university.
* Must have completed at least the **Freshman year** before the start of the internship.
* Must be able to successfully complete a **medically supervised drug screen and background check**.
* Must be available to work **40 hours per week for a minimum of eight consecutive weeks** between May 2027 and September 2027.
* Must be able to establish housing and reliable transportation for the duration of the internship assignment.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills.

* Proficiency with the **Microsoft Office suite**, including Word and Excel.
## Preferred Qualifications
* Coursework or related experience developing software applications, particularly using **Java**.
* One year of programming experience, including experience gained through internships or college projects; Java experience is preferred.
* Interest in and coursework related to **cybersecurity and compliance**.
* Interest in and coursework related to **IT infrastructure**, including networks, servers, and desktops.
* Skills in **Java**.

**Education Requirements**
* Currently enrolled full-time in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in **Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering**.
* Must have completed the Freshman year before the internship begins.
**Experience Requirements**
* No specific prior professional experience is required.
* For the programming track, coursework or related software development experience is preferred.
* One year of programming experience through an internship or college projects is preferred for the programming track.
## Work Arrangement & Schedule
* **Work arrangement:** Onsite; this is **not a remote opportunity**.
