About Fig STEM
Fig STEM is an early-stage education technology startup building tools that make hands-on STEM and hardware education easier and more accessible.
Our primary product, FigLab, is an interactive learning platform designed to reduce the setup barriers students face when learning hardware, embedded systems, and Raspberry Pi. Our goal is to help students move from learning a concept to writing code and interacting with real hardware in one guided experience.
We are looking for someone who wants to take meaningful ownership of our social media presence and help us tell that story.
About the Role
We are looking for a creative and self-directed Social Media Manager to lead Fig STEM's organic social media and content efforts.
This is not a traditional posting-only role. You will have significant freedom to shape our social media strategy, experiment with new ideas, develop our content style, and determine how we communicate FigLab to students, educators, makers, and the broader STEM community.
You will work directly with the founder and have access to product demos, tutorials, company updates, and other material that can be turned into engaging content.
The role is expected to require approximately 10–15 hours per week, with flexibility in when and how the work is completed based on agreed-upon deliverables and content deadlines.
What You'll Do
Develop and manage Fig STEM's social media content calendar.
Create short-form videos for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
Create graphics, carousels, screenshots, product demonstrations, and other visual content.
Write captions, hooks, post copy, and calls to action.
Manage and publish content across LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and X as appropriate.
Repurpose longer videos, product demonstrations, tutorials, and existing content into platform-specific posts.
Identify relevant social media trends and creatively adapt them to a STEM/technology audience.
Engage with comments and relevant online communities.
Monitor content performance and identify what formats and topics are working.
Track metrics including reach, views, engagement, follower growth, website traffic, and other relevant indicators.
Experiment with different content formats, hooks, messaging, and posting strategies.
Provide a short recurring performance summary and recommendations based on results.
Collaborate directly with the founder on product launches, events, workshops, partnerships, and other company initiatives.
What We're Looking For
You do not need years of professional social media experience. We care much more about whether you can create engaging content, understand social platforms, communicate clearly, and take initiative.
You may be a strong fit if you:
Understand how content performs on TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, or similar platforms.
Have experience creating short-form video content.
Are comfortable using tools such as Canva, CapCut, Adobe tools, or similar content-creation software.
Have strong written communication skills.
Can turn technical or educational ideas into simple, engaging content.
Follow social media trends and understand strong hooks, pacing, and storytelling.
Are comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects.
Can consistently dedicate approximately 10–15 hours per week.
Are interested in startups, technology, STEM education, engineering, coding, Raspberry Pi, or related areas.
Nice to Have
Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:
Managing a company or organization's social media account.
Growing a personal social media account or online community.
Video editing.
Graphic design.
Photography or videography.
Content analytics.
Technology or education content.
Raspberry Pi, Arduino, programming, electronics, engineering, or maker projects.
Working with an early-stage startup.
A degree is not required for this role.
What Success Looks Like
We want someone who can gradually take ownership of Fig STEM's organic social media presence rather than simply wait for instructions on what to post.
Examples of recurring work may include:
Producing approximately 3 short-form videos per week.
Creating 1–2 graphics or carousel-style posts per week.
Repurposing content across relevant platforms.
Maintaining an organized content calendar.
Engaging with relevant audiences and communities.
Reviewing content performance and continuously improving the strategy.
These are intended as general expectations rather than a rigid daily work schedule.
Compensation & Equity
This is currently an equity-only independent contractor opportunity. There is no cash salary or hourly wage associated with the role at this time.
The selected contractor is expected to receive an equity grant of approximately 0.35% of Fig STEM, subject to the company's equity plan, applicable agreements, required approvals, and final grant documentation.
The company's standard vesting schedule is:
4-year vesting period
1-year cliff
Remaining equity vesting thereafter in accordance with the applicable equity agreement
Equity in an early-stage private company is speculative, is not guaranteed to have monetary value, and may ultimately be worth nothing. Future financing and other events may also dilute ownership percentages.
Applicants should only apply if they understand and are comfortable with the equity-only compensation structure.
Why Join Fig STEM?
This role offers the opportunity to join an early-stage startup and take ownership of an important part of the company's growth.
Instead of joining a large marketing department and handling a small piece of a strategy, you will have the ability to influence Fig STEM's voice, content strategy, creative direction, and approach to building a community around STEM and hardware education.
As the company grows, we hope the responsibilities and opportunities associated with the role can grow as well.
How to Apply
Please apply through LinkedIn.
If available, include examples of content you have created, social media accounts you have managed, a portfolio, or other work that demonstrates your ability to create engaging content.
We are especially interested in seeing short-form videos, graphics, social posts, or accounts you have helped grow.
Formal professional social media experience is not required. Strong personal projects and creator accounts absolutely count.
