Chief Information Officer (CIO)

Role Description The Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Careers In Law will provide strategic leadership for all information technology initiatives and systems. This part-time, remote role oversees IT operations, ensuring platforms and tools supporting legal talent, HR services, and community engagement are secure, reliable, and scalable. The CIO will design and implement IT strategies aligned with organizational goals, optimize business processes through technology, and manage vendor relationships and technology budgets. Day-to-day tasks include guiding system architecture and integrations, establishing data governance and cybersecurity standards, supporting digital platforms used by students, legal professionals, and clients, and collaborating with leadership to plan technology roadmaps. The CIO will also monitor performance metrics, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with relevant data protection and privacy regulations.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in information technology, with experience overseeing diverse IT environments and platforms (Information Technology).
Demonstrated experience managing IT operations, including infrastructure, applications, security, and support in a remote or distributed setting (IT Operations).
Proven leadership background in IT management, with responsibility for teams, vendors, budgets, and cross-functional initiatives (IT Management).
Ability to develop and execute IT strategy that aligns technology investments with organizational goals and long-term growth (IT Strategy).
Expertise in analyzing and improving business processes through technology, automation, and data-informed decision-making (Business Process).
Experience with cloud-based solutions, integration of HR or talent platforms, and data governance and cybersecurity best practices.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to partner effectively with non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CIO, ITIL, PMP, cloud certifications) are beneficial.
Background in professional services, HR technology, or legal-sector platforms is an advantage but not required.
