Chief Perfumer / Fragrance R&D Director

Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Chief Perfumer / Fragrance R&D Director to lead fragrance creation, product innovation, formulation development, raw material strategy, and fragrance R&D operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the creative direction and development of fine fragrances, personal care, home fragrance, and other scent products.
Develop and execute fragrance R&D strategies aligned with brand positioning, consumer preferences, and commercial objectives.
Create and refine fragrance formulas, accords, olfactive concepts, and product prototypes from concept through commercialisation.
Lead fragrance evaluation, performance testing, stability assessment, and formulation optimisation.
Develop and maintain a strategic portfolio of natural and synthetic fragrance ingredients, raw materials, and specialty materials.
Collaborate with marketing, product development, regulatory, procurement, quality, manufacturing, and commercial teams to bring new products to market.
Monitor fragrance trends, consumer preferences, emerging ingredients, technologies, and market opportunities to drive innovation.
Establish and maintain fragrance quality standards, formulation processes, evaluation criteria, and R&D best practices.
Work closely with suppliers, fragrance houses, ingredient manufacturers, and external laboratories to source and evaluate new materials.
Support product positioning, olfactive storytelling, product briefs, and commercialisation strategies.
Ensure fragrance formulations comply with applicable safety, regulatory, sustainability, and quality requirements.
Manage R&D budgets, project timelines, development pipelines, intellectual property, and formulation documentation.
Lead, mentor, and develop perfumers, fragrance scientists, formulators, and R&D teams.
Requirements & Qualifications
Diploma/Degree in Perfumery, Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science, or a related field.
Proven experience in perfumery, fragrance development, fragrance R&D, product formulation, or a related senior technical/creative role.
Strong expertise in olfactive development, fragrance formulation, raw materials, sensory evaluation, and fragrance product development.
Strong understanding of natural and synthetic ingredients, formulation techniques, fragrance performance, stability, and quality control.
Professional training or certification in perfumery, fragrance science, cosmetic formulation, or a related discipline is preferred.
Strong creative, analytical, technical, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Experience working with fragrance houses, ingredient suppliers, laboratories, manufacturing teams, and cross-functional product development teams.
Familiarity with fragrance evaluation tools, formulation systems, laboratory processes, regulatory standards, and R&D technologies.
Experience across fine fragrance, luxury beauty, cosmetics, personal care, home fragrance, or consumer products is preferred.
Proven track record of successfully developing and commercialising innovative fragrances, formulations, or fragrance product portfolios.
