Software Engineer – Backend (Java)

Role: Java Backend Engineer, Chennai
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain backend applications using Java and related frameworks
Write clean, readable, and maintainable code following established coding standards and best practices
Implement well-defined features and enhancements based on functional and technical requirements with guidance from senior engineers
Develop and consume RESTful APIs, understanding basic client-server communication and HTTP concepts
Collaborate with product, QA, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality software solutions
Participate in code reviews and learn modern software engineering practices
Write and execute unit tests to ensure application quality and reliability
Work with relational databases to create and optimize basic SQL queries and data access components
Debug and resolve application issues using logs, debugging tools, and structured troubleshooting approaches
Use version control systems such as Git for source code management, branching, and collaboration
Work within existing CI/CD pipelines for building, testing, and deploying applications
Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve productivity and code quality
Continuously learn modern technologies, frameworks, cloud concepts, and engineering best practices
Job Description
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field
Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Java
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) concepts, including encapsulation, inheritance, and polymorphism
Understanding of fundamental data structures such as arrays, linked lists, stacks, queues, and hash maps
Knowledge of basic algorithms, including sorting, searching, and recursion
Familiarity with Java fundamentals, exception handling, collections, and multithreading concepts
Understanding of REST APIs, HTTP methods, and client-server architecture
Basic knowledge of relational databases and SQL
Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) concepts
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Eagerness to learn new technologies and work in a collaborative team environment
