We are looking for a creative website designer with excellent digital graphic design skills who can also build and manage websites in WordPress.
About the Role
We are looking for a talented Website Designer & WordPress Developer to join our team and create modern, visually impressive websites for a variety of clients and brands.
This is first and foremost a WEBSITE DESIGN role.
We are looking for someone with exceptional digital graphic design skills and a strong eye for website design, combined with the practical WordPress skills needed to turn those designs into fully functional websites.
You should be equally comfortable designing the visual look and feel of a website and building it in WordPress.
Please note: This is not a software development, app development, product design or software UI/UX position. We are specifically looking for someone whose experience and portfolio demonstrate strong website and digital graphic design skills.
What You'll Be Doing
Design beautiful, modern and professional websites for a variety of clients and industries.
Create website layouts and visual concepts that complement each client's brand.
Select and work with imagery, typography, colour, graphics and other visual elements.
Turn client content and brand guidelines into visually engaging website designs.
Build responsive, mobile-friendly websites primarily using WordPress and Elementor.
Use suitable AI-powered tools to assist with website design, development and content creation.
Maintain and update existing client websites.
Manage WordPress themes, plugins, content and general website functionality.
Work with hosting environments, cPanel and DNS when deploying or maintaining websites.
Optimise websites and images for performance, usability and basic SEO.
Test websites across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
Troubleshoot and resolve WordPress and website-related issues.
Keep up to date with modern website and digital design trends, technologies and AI tools.
Exceptional Design Skills Are Essential
We are not looking for someone who can simply build a website from an existing design.
You need to be the person who can create the design.
You should have a strong understanding of:
Modern website design
Digital graphic design
Typography and font pairing
Colour theory
Layout and composition
Visual hierarchy and spacing
Responsive and mobile website design
User-friendly website layouts and navigation
Brand consistency
Image selection, editing and treatment
Creating supporting graphics and visual elements for websites
You should be able to look at a website and immediately recognise when the typography, spacing, imagery, colours or overall design aren't working — and know how to turn it into something modern, clean, polished and visually impressive.
Technical & Software Skills
You should have practical experience with:
WordPress
Elementor or similar modern WordPress page builders
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
HTML and CSS
Figma or similar tools for website layouts and concepts
Website and image optimisation
Basic SEO principles
AI tools for website design, development and content creation
Advanced software development or programming experience is not required for this position.
Experience & Qualifications
Ideally, you should have 3+ years of practical website design and WordPress experience, preferably working on websites for multiple clients or brands.
A qualification in Web Design, Digital Design, Graphic Design or a related creative field would be advantageous.
While technical website skills are important, your design portfolio will carry significantly more weight than your formal qualifications.
Your portfolio should demonstrate actual website design work, not primarily software interfaces, dashboards, mobile apps, UX wireframes or software development projects.
