You are the backend. Not a backend engineer on a team. The backend.
Every schema, every API contract, every transaction boundary, every architectural tradeoff is yours to make and yours to defend. This seat is built to grow, not stay solo. You are hired to build the foundation, and as CredX scales, this role grows into Head of Engineering / CTO - hiring and leading the team you once were.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗢𝘄𝗻
Architecture: Own the backend across billing, verification, hiring, users, roles, and admin. Design schemas, indexing strategies, transaction boundaries, and audit trails. Define API contracts before the frontend starts building.
Billing: Own the full billing lifecycle, including plans, credits, mid cycle changes, proration, renewals, failed payments, and reconciliation. Implement signature verified webhooks, reliable idempotency that holds under retries, and a backend that serves as the single source of truth for customer entitlements. Razorpay will be the primary payment provider, with Stripe as a potential future option.
Core Systems: Design and implement RBAC across Super Admin, Admin, Hiring Manager, Recruiter, and Applicant roles. Own verification and document processing workflows, authentication and authorization with JWT and Spring Security, and REST APIs with validation and error handling that can withstand real world scenarios.
Production: Own the entire delivery lifecycle, from design to release. Set up monitoring and alerting, handle incident response, and ensure long term system reliability. When something breaks at 2 AM, you own the resolution and the systems that ensure we know about it before the customer does.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱
Java and Spring Boot: 3 to 6 years of experience designing and building production systems from scratch, rather than primarily extending existing systems.
PostgreSQL: Deep expertise in schema design, query optimization, indexing, and transaction semantics, with the ability to reason about database behavior under concurrency.
Production Payment Systems: Hands on experience with subscription or credit lifecycles, webhooks, proration, and entitlement enforcement. You should have worked on systems handling real money and understand how to test for correctness under retries, failures, and edge cases rather than focusing only on the happy path.
System Design: Strong judgment when designing systems. You identify bottlenecks before they become problems, design for failure as the default case, and make deliberate tradeoffs.
Security and Access Control: Strong experience with JWT, Spring Security, and RBAC architectures that can scale as new roles and permissions are introduced over time.
Security and Data Handling: Strong fundamentals in encryption at rest and in transit, secure document storage, and audit grade logging. CredX's product is built on verified trust, and the backend is where that trust either holds or breaks.
AI Tooling: Fluency with AI development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, or equivalent, using them to increase productivity and ship more effectively rather than as decoration.
Ownership: Comfortable taking complete ownership of systems and responsibilities without needing someone to continuously assign work.
𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲
Experience with Razorpay Subscriptions or Stripe Billing, Azure deployment and infrastructure as code using Terraform or Bicep, CI/CD pipeline ownership, KYC or document verification workflows, planning API contracts alongside an Angular team, or previous founding team experience.

You want an existing architecture to extend, a tech lead to escalate to, or someone else on call. You want remote or hybrid. You are optimising for the highest cash offer, which will not be us.

A deep technical conversation with the founder, mostly system design. A walkthrough of something you built where the data model was hard.
