Senior Backend Engineer – PHP / Laravel
Fully Remote – Europe | B2B Contract
€65,000 – €80,000 depending on experience
We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong PHP and Laravel experience to join a growing tech team building and developing a high-end web and app-based platform.
This is a long-term B2B contract opportunity for someone who cares about clean code, good architecture and building scalable, reliable backend systems. You’ll have plenty of ownership, contribute to technical decisions and work closely with the wider engineering and product teams.
The Role
You’ll play a key role in designing, developing and improving the platform’s backend systems, with a strong focus on performance, scalability and engineering quality.
You’ll be:
Developing and maintaining backend systems using PHP and Laravel
Designing, building and optimising REST APIs
Writing clean, maintainable and testable code
Working with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL
Building scalable backend services and working with microservices/distributed architectures
Applying SOLID principles and design patterns
Improving application performance, reliability and responsiveness
Building new functionality and services from scratch
Taking ownership of development from design through to delivery
Contributing to architecture and wider technical decisions
Working collaboratively with engineers, product and other stakeholders
Your experience:
We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer with:
Extensive commercial PHP development experience
Strong, recent and hands-on Laravel expertise
Excellent understanding of REST APIs
Strong knowledge of MySQL and/or PostgreSQL
Experience building scalable backend applications
Experience with microservices and/or distributed systems
Strong understanding of SOLID principles and design patterns
A genuine focus on clean code and maintainable architecture
Experience building projects, services or significant functionality from scratch
Confidence working with and improving existing codebases
A proactive approach and the ability to take ownership at senior level
Experience integrating with travel booking engines or other complex third-party platforms would be a bonus, but isn’t essential.

You’ll need to be based in Europe and able to work on a B2B contract basis. Unfortunately, we cannot consider candidates based in the UK or outside Europe for this role.
