About the Role
Global Ocean Logistics is looking for an experienced and commercially driven Import Pricing Specialist to join our Pricing & Commercial team in Mumbai.
The role will be responsible for managing import ocean freight pricing, developing competitive quotations, negotiating rates with shipping lines and overseas partners, and supporting the commercial team with accurate and profitable pricing solutions.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of international ocean freight, import trade lanes, carrier pricing and freight forwarding processes.
Key Responsibilities
Manage import ocean freight pricing for FCL and LCL shipments across international trade lanes.
Obtain and negotiate competitive rates from shipping lines, NVOCCs, overseas agents and freight partners.
Prepare accurate and timely quotations based on customer requirements and shipment specifications.
Analyse carrier rates, market pricing, surcharges and competitor rates.
Maintain and regularly update rate sheets, tariffs, contracts and pricing databases.
Calculate and validate ocean freight components, including basic freight, THC, documentation charges and applicable surcharges.
Coordinate with sales, operations, overseas offices and destination agents to ensure smooth execution of agreed rates.
Support the commercial team with spot rates, RFQs, tenders and customer-specific pricing.
Evaluate trade lanes, ports, container types, transit times and carrier options to develop effective pricing solutions.
Ensure pricing maintains the required commercial margins and profitability.
Identify opportunities to improve pricing competitiveness and overall profitability.
Resolve pricing discrepancies and coordinate with relevant stakeholders for timely resolution.
Requirements
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in import pricing, ocean freight, freight forwarding, shipping or global logistics.
Strong understanding of international ocean freight and import processes.
Hands-on experience with FCL/LCL pricing and international trade lanes.
Experience working with shipping lines, NVOCCs, freight forwarders and overseas agents.
Good understanding of freight terms, port charges, surcharges and Incoterms.
Strong negotiation and commercial skills.
Excellent numerical and analytical abilities.
Proficiency in MS Excel and other pricing/rate management systems.
Strong communication and coordination skills.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple pricing requests simultaneously.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred Experience
Experience handling international import trade lanes and global customers.
Knowledge of major international shipping lines and their pricing structures.
Experience with spot pricing, contract rates, tenders and RFQs.
Experience working with international logistics networks or overseas offices.
Understanding of international trade documentation and commercial terms.
