SCADA Engineer
Location: San Francisco, CA (Remote within the United States considered)

Overview
A growing organization within the energy sector is seeking a SCADA Engineer to support the
design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of industrial control and automation
systems across utility-scale power generation and energy storage facilities.
This position works closely with engineering, construction, operations, and asset
management teams to ensure the reliable performance of SCADA, communications, and
control systems. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting critical infrastructure
environments, troubleshooting complex automation systems, and coordinating with external
stakeholders to meet operational and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Support and maintain SCADA, industrial control systems (ICS), and operational
technology (OT) infrastructure.
• Ensure systems comply with applicable cybersecurity, operational, and regulatory
standards.
• Develop, maintain, and manage technical documentation related to SCADA,
automation, communications, and control systems.
• Configure and support data exchange between power generation facilities and
external market participants, grid operators, and third-party entities.
• Manage communications between remote terminal units (RTUs), plant controllers,
and external systems.
• Review, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve SCADA applications and automation
logic.
• Support facility model updates, validation, and performance monitoring activities.
• Provide proactive monitoring and reactive troubleshooting for data acquisition,
communications, and control systems.
• Diagnose and resolve networking issues involving TCP/IP networks, routing,
switching, serial communications, and wireless infrastructure.
• Collaborate with internal and external teams during project development,
commissioning, and operational phases.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on system reliability,
performance, and security.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer
Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 3–5 years of experience supporting, maintaining, or designing industrial SCADA or
automation systems.
• Experience working with utility-scale renewable energy, power generation, energy
storage, or related industrial facilities.
• Familiarity with inverter-based resources and associated control systems.• Experience troubleshooting and developing solutions using technologies such as
Python, Bash, and IEC 61131-3.
• Strong understanding of industrial networking concepts, including TCP/IP,
RS232/RS-485, routing, switching, and wireless communications.
• Experience supporting critical infrastructure cybersecurity programs and compliance
requirements.
• Ability to travel as needed to project sites and stakeholder locations.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS),
or other renewable energy assets.
• Knowledge of power system operations and grid integration requirements.
• Familiarity with energy markets, grid operators, or utility interconnection processes.
• Understanding of industrial cybersecurity frameworks and best practices.
• Experience supporting commissioning, testing, and performance optimization
activities.
Compensation & Benefits
• Competitive base salary ranging from $135,000 - $150,000 annually, depending on
experience and qualifications.
