🚨 Hiring: Computational Geometry & Measurement Algorithms Engineer
Industry: Railway Technology | Machine Vision | Optical Measurement | Engineering
Role: Computational Geometry & Measurement Algorithms Engineer
Experience: 10+ Years
Location: Hyderabad / Bengaluru
🔹 About the Role
Our client is looking for a Computational Geometry & Measurement Algorithms Engineer to develop advanced measurement methods and geometry algorithms for railway inspection products.
The role involves working closely with the data acquisition and sensor teams to determine how cameras, lasers and other sensors should be configured to capture accurate measurement data, and converting calibrated coordinates into precise engineering measurements, profiles and condition indicators.
🔹 Key Product Applications
✔️ Wheel Profile Measurement Systems – Wheel profile, diameter, wheel gauge, flange thickness, flange height, qR, root radius, tread hollow, rollover and related parameters.
✔️ OHE Measurement Systems – Contact-wire height, stagger and other geometric parameters.
✔️ Development of the same computational framework for future non-contact dimensional measurement products.
🔹 Key Responsibilities
• Develop algorithms for coordinate transformation, alignment, filtering and outlier removal.
• Work on interpolation, curve/line fitting, feature detection, intersections, tangents, extrema, distances and profile comparison.
• Collaborate with sensor and data-acquisition teams to define sensor positioning, viewing geometry, field of view, resolution, overlap and calibration requirements.
• Define input-data interfaces covering units, coordinate references, calibration data, quality flags and missing-data handling.
• Quantify measurement uncertainty and analyse the impact of sensor errors, calibration, vibration, speed, alignment and incomplete data.
• Translate engineering measurement definitions into tested and production-ready algorithms.
• Validate algorithms against calibrated gauges, reference measurements, simulated cases and field data.
• Implement maintainable production code and expose calculations through a software library/API.
• Document calculation methods, assumptions, test cases, accuracy and known limitations.
🔹 Required Skills
✅ Strong knowledge of Analytical Geometry, Computational Geometry and Numerical Methods
✅ Experience with 2D profile and 3D coordinate data
✅ Hands-on experience in point-cloud/profile processing
✅ Coordinate transformations, least-squares fitting, robust estimation and numerical optimisation
✅ Experience with best-fit curve estimation and splines
✅ Understanding of dimensional metrology, calibration, error budgets, repeatability and measurement uncertainty
✅ Knowledge of camera/laser measurement geometry, triangulation, perspective, FOV and spatial calibration
✅ Strong programming skills in Python and C++ / C
➕ MATLAB experience is an advantage
➕ Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing is desirable.
🔹 Education & Experience
🎓 Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
• Mathematics & Computing
• Applied Mathematics
• Computer Science
• Robotics
• Computer Vision
• Geomatics
• Electronics
• Or a related field
Experience: 3+ years in geometry-based measurement algorithms is preferred, with hands-on experience being more important than the exact degree title.
Experience in industrial optical metrology, machine vision, laser measurement or railway measurement systems will be an added advantage.
