A Robotics & Automation Apprenticeship at Tara Mines offers a practical, structured way to earn while you learn, gain a nationally recognised qualification, and develop skills that are increasingly in demand across modern industry.
On successful completion, apprentices will achieve a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Robotics & Automation, a nationally recognised qualification valued across a wide range of sectors including manufacturing, engineering, pharmaceuticals, food production and advanced technology industries.
You don't need previous experience. We provide training, mentoring and support from day one.
What you'll learn and do
Robotics & Automation Technicians play an important role in supporting and improving automated systems, robotics technology and smart manufacturing processes.
Working alongside experienced mentors, you'll learn how modern automation systems operate, how advanced technologies improve safety and efficiency, and how innovation helps drive continuous improvement.
During your apprenticeship, you'll be supported to learn how to:
Program, test and operate robotic and automated systems
Troubleshoot faults and solve technical issues in automation equipment
Support the installation, integration and commissioning of robotics systems
Work with PLCs, industrial control systems and automation technologies
Maintain and optimise equipment to improve reliability and performance
Use digital tools, data analysis and Industry 4.0/5.0 technologies
Contribute to continuous improvement and automation projects
Follow safety standards and best practices when working with advanced technology systems
What you'll learn throughout the programme
During the apprenticeship, you'll build knowledge and practical skills in areas such as:
Industrial automation
Industrial systems, workshop skills and equipment control
PLC programming and process control
Engineering systems and automation technologies
Problem solving, communication and professional development
Work-based project management and continuous improvement initiatives

Entry requirements
Aged 18 years or over
Leaving Certificate with a minimum of five passes, including English and Maths
OR
A QQI Level 5 qualification or higher (or equivalent recognised qualification)
Applicants may also be required to complete an aptitude assessment as part of the recruitment process.

Practical details
37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Some flexibility may be required in line with operational needs
A structured programme combining on-the-job learning with off-site training
Apprentices will alternate between workplace experience and formal training throughout the two-year programme
Apprentices will complete a work-based capstone project as part of their qualification
