Vice President of Project Management
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and results-driven Vice President of Project Management to lead the company's global Project Management organization and drive strategic project execution, operational excellence, and successful delivery of high-impact initiatives.
The VP of Project Management will translate corporate objectives into structured project portfolios, scalable execution frameworks, and measurable delivery plans. This executive will oversee Project Management, Program Management, Portfolio Management, PMO Governance, Resource Planning, Budget Management, Risk Management, Project Performance, and Continuous Improvement.
The VP will work closely with Executive Leadership, Operations, Product, Technology, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Human Resources, and other business functions to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with organizational priorities.
Key Responsibilities1. Project Management Strategy
Develop and execute the company's global Project Management strategy.
Establish project management frameworks, methodologies, standards, and best practices.
Align project portfolios with corporate strategy and business objectives.
Establish project governance, planning, and decision-making processes.
Identify opportunities to improve project delivery efficiency and organizational performance.
2. Strategic Project & Program Management
Lead complex, high-impact, and cross-functional strategic projects and programs.
Establish project objectives, scope, milestones, deliverables, and success criteria.
Oversee project planning, execution, monitoring, and completion.
Manage project dependencies, priorities, timelines, and critical deliverables.
Ensure strategic initiatives achieve measurable business outcomes.
3. PMO Leadership & Governance
Lead and scale the company's Project Management Office (PMO).
Establish PMO governance, reporting, documentation, and review processes.
Standardize project management methodologies across business units.
Develop project portfolio reporting for executive leadership.
Ensure consistent project controls, accountability, and performance standards.
4. Resource & Budget Management
Develop project resource planning and capacity management strategies.
Allocate personnel, technology, financial resources, and external vendors.
Establish and monitor project budgets and financial performance.
Optimize resource utilization across the project portfolio.
Partner with Finance and business leaders on project investment decisions.
5. Risk & Issue Management
Identify, evaluate, and manage project risks and dependencies.
Establish risk management and escalation frameworks.
Monitor critical project issues and develop mitigation strategies.
Ensure timely escalation of significant project risks to executive leadership.
Maintain project continuity and minimize operational disruption.
6. Cross-Functional Leadership
Partner with Executive Leadership and functional leaders to execute strategic initiatives.
Coordinate collaboration across Product, Technology, Operations, Finance, Sales, Marketing, and other departments.
Establish clear communication and accountability across project teams.
Manage stakeholder expectations and executive-level project communications.
Resolve cross-functional conflicts and delivery challenges.
7. Project Performance & Continuous Improvement
Establish project KPIs, performance dashboards, and reporting standards.
Monitor project schedules, budgets, quality, risks, and business outcomes.
Analyze project performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Implement process optimization and project management best practices.
Continuously improve project delivery predictability, efficiency, and quality.
8. Team Leadership & Organizational Development
Recruit, mentor, and develop Project Managers, Program Managers, PMO leaders, and project professionals.
Build and scale a high-performing global Project Management organization.
Establish project management career paths and competency frameworks.
Develop leadership, succession planning, and professional development programs.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, execution, and continuous improvement.
QualificationsEducation
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Operations, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
MBA or Master's degree preferred.
Experience
20+ years of progressive experience in Project Management, Program Management, Portfolio Management, Operations, or related functions.
10+ years of senior leadership experience managing project management organizations.
Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional, and high-value projects.
Experience managing global or multi-regional project portfolios.
Strong experience with project governance, budgets, resources, timelines, and risk management.
Demonstrated experience building or scaling a PMO or enterprise project management function.
Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
