Company Description Vela (NammaVela) is building a daily employability app for India’s college students, starting with tier-2 and tier-3 regions in Tamil Nadu. The platform provides each student with a dynamic Career Credit Score that reflects how job-ready they are for specific roles, highlights exact skill gaps, and compares their progress with campus peers. Students receive clear, actionable steps to improve their employability every day, helping them stand out beyond generic degrees. Vela aims to offer an honest, data-driven signal of employability well before placement season, enabling both learners and employers to make better decisions.
Role Description As an Engineer Intern at Vela, you will work full-time on-site in Bengaluru, partnering closely with the product and engineering teams to build and improve features for the employability app. Day-to-day responsibilities may include implementing backend and frontend components, writing clean and testable code, and contributing to integrations that support scoring, analytics, and user experience. You will help debug issues, participate in code reviews, and collaborate on technical design discussions to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability. The role offers exposure to the full product lifecycle, from ideation and prototyping to deployment and iteration based on user feedback.
Qualifications
Foundational programming skills in at least one modern language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Java, or similar), with the ability to write clear, maintainable code.
Basic understanding of software development practices, including version control (e.g., Git), testing, and debugging.
Familiarity with web or mobile development concepts, such as APIs, databases, and user interface implementation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex issues into practical technical tasks.
Effective communication and collaboration skills, with openness to feedback and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Interest in education, employability, or building products for students in emerging markets is highly beneficial.
