Role Description The Director of Artificial Intelligence is a full-time, remote role responsible for defining and leading the AI strategy across 996 Ventures’ products, content, and operational workflows. This role involves designing and overseeing end-to-end machine learning solutions, from data collection and modeling to deployment and performance monitoring. The director will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and editorial teams to identify high-impact AI use cases, such as content recommendation, founder discovery, predictive analytics, and workflow automation. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing AI roadmaps, guiding experiments and proofs of concept, establishing best practices for data governance and model ethics, and mentoring team members and external collaborators. The person in this role will also evaluate new tools and frameworks, maintain partnerships with AI vendors and research communities, and communicate AI insights and outcomes to leadership and stakeholders.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in Computer Science, including algorithms, data structures, software engineering principles, and system design.
Expertise in Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition, with experience building, training, and deploying models in production environments.
Proficiency in Data Science and Analytics, including data wrangling, statistical analysis, experimentation (A/B testing), and data visualization.
Hands-on experience with modern AI/ML tools and frameworks (e.g., Python, PyTorch or TensorFlow, scikit-learn, cloud ML platforms).
Proven track record leading AI initiatives or teams, including setting strategy, defining metrics, and delivering measurable business impact.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate effectively in a remote, cross-functional environment.
Familiarity with responsible AI practices, including model fairness, transparency, and privacy-preserving techniques.
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
