About Canopi
Canopi is building software for workforce compliance and credential intelligence in regulated, safety-sensitive industries. Our current focus is transportation and logistics, where operators need to know whether a worker is qualified for a specific assignment before work begins.
We are an early-stage team building a focused enterprise SaaS product with a strong emphasis on reliability, technical quality, and practical customer workflows.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Team Lead to support our CTO and help drive day-to-day engineering execution. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will write production code, review engineering work, help unblock developers, improve technical coordination, and take ownership of key areas of delivery. You will work closely with the CTO to strengthen engineering capacity, improve execution, and create better visibility across the development process.
The right person is comfortable operating in an early-stage environment where priorities move quickly, documentation matters, and strong communication is as important as technical ability.
What You’ll Do
Write, review, test, and ship production-quality code.
Take ownership of assigned technical workstreams from planning through release.
Support the CTO in day-to-day engineering leadership and execution.
Review pull requests and help maintain engineering quality standards.
Help unblock engineers when technical issues arise.
Break product requirements into clear technical tasks and implementation plans.
Improve engineering documentation, handoffs, and decision tracking.
Identify technical risks, dependencies, and delivery issues early.
Help keep engineering work aligned with sprint priorities and product requirements.
Partner with product and design to clarify requirements before development begins.
Help establish practical development, testing, release, and code-review processes.
Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance when needed.
Contribute to architecture discussions while respecting the CTO’s ownership of overall technical direction.
What We’re Looking For
Strong software engineering experience, ideally across full-stack product development.
Demonstrated experience shipping production software in a startup or fast-moving environment.
Strong coding ability and willingness to remain hands-on.
Experience reviewing code and supporting other engineers.
Ability to independently own technical projects and drive them to completion.
Strong written and verbal communication.
Ability to identify problems early and communicate them clearly.
Comfortable working directly with product, design, and company leadership.
Strong judgment around technical tradeoffs, scope, and execution.
Ability to work with an existing CTO and strengthen the engineering organization without creating unnecessary hierarchy.
Nice to Have
Experience with B2B SaaS or enterprise software.
Experience with integrations, APIs, workflow systems, or data-heavy applications.
Experience building products involving compliance, credentialing, transportation, logistics, or regulated industries.
Experience in Azure environments.
Experience working with distributed engineering teams.

Reporting Structure
