Chief Investment Officer

Position Summary
The Chief Investment Officer (CIO) is the senior executive responsible for developing and overseeing the organization's overall investment strategy, portfolio construction, capital allocation, and investment risk management.
The CIO provides leadership across investment activities and ensures that capital is deployed in accordance with the organization's objectives, risk tolerance, liquidity requirements, and long-term growth strategy.
Working closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, Investment Committee, CFO, and senior investment professionals, the CIO establishes investment priorities, evaluates market opportunities, manages portfolio performance, and oversees the organization's investment platform.
Key ResponsibilitiesInvestment Strategy
Develop and execute the organization's overall investment strategy
Establish long-term investment objectives and portfolio priorities
Define investment principles, mandates, and allocation frameworks
Evaluate market conditions and emerging investment opportunities
Ensure investment strategy remains aligned with organizational objectives
Asset Allocation
Establish strategic and tactical asset allocation strategies
Determine appropriate allocation across asset classes, sectors, geographies, and investment strategies
Balance return objectives with risk, liquidity, and capital preservation requirements
Conduct portfolio scenario and stress analysis
Adjust portfolio positioning based on changing market conditions
Portfolio Management
Oversee the organization's investment portfolio and investment managers
Monitor portfolio performance, risk exposure, liquidity, and concentration
Evaluate portfolio construction and diversification
Identify opportunities to improve risk-adjusted returns
Establish portfolio performance benchmarks
Investment Selection
Evaluate direct investments, funds, private markets, public markets, and strategic investment opportunities
Review investment theses, financial models, valuations, and market analysis
Approve or recommend significant investment decisions
Oversee investment due diligence
Establish investment approval and governance processes
Strategic Investments & Alternatives
Evaluate private equity, venture capital, real estate, infrastructure, private credit, and other alternative investments where appropriate
Identify strategic investment opportunities that support long-term enterprise objectives
Develop relationships with institutional investors, fund managers, financial institutions, and strategic partners
Assess co-investment and partnership opportunities
Oversee strategic investment initiatives
Risk Management
Establish the organization's investment risk framework
Monitor market, liquidity, credit, concentration, counterparty, and portfolio risks
Establish risk limits and escalation procedures
Conduct stress testing and scenario analysis
Ensure investment decisions remain consistent with approved risk parameters
Capital Allocation
Advise executive leadership and the Board on capital allocation
Evaluate competing investment opportunities
Establish capital deployment priorities
Assess expected returns and risk-adjusted outcomes
Optimize capital allocation across strategic initiatives and investment portfolios
Investment Research & Market Intelligence
Oversee macroeconomic, market, industry, and investment research
Monitor interest rates, inflation, economic growth, market valuations, and geopolitical developments
Identify emerging trends and investment opportunities
Translate market intelligence into actionable portfolio recommendations
Maintain a forward-looking investment perspective
Investment Governance
Develop investment policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
Chair or participate in Investment Committee activities
Establish decision-making processes for major investment transactions
Ensure appropriate documentation and investment controls
Maintain transparency and accountability throughout the investment process
Investment Team Leadership
Build and lead a high-performing investment organization
Recruit and develop senior investment professionals
Establish performance standards and investment processes
Oversee portfolio managers, investment directors, analysts, and research teams
Develop succession planning and investment leadership capabilities
Executive & Board Advisory
Serve as the principal investment advisor to the CEO and Board
Present investment strategy and portfolio performance to the Investment Committee and Board
Provide recommendations regarding major capital deployment decisions
Communicate investment risks, opportunities, and market developments
Support long-term corporate and financial planning
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or related field
MBA, CFA, or advanced degree strongly preferred
15+ years of investment management, asset management, private equity, venture capital, investment banking, or related experience
8+ years of senior investment leadership experience
Demonstrated experience managing significant investment portfolios or capital
Strong knowledge of portfolio construction, asset allocation, valuation, and risk management
Excellent executive communication and decision-making capabilities
