Position Title: Chief Financial Officer
Reports to: President/CEO
Position Summary:
Legacy Health Endowment seeks a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to support three to four nonprofits under a shared services agreement. All of the nonprofits are located in Turlock, CA.
The CFO will have day-to-day responsibility for all four organizations' financial activities, including accounting, finance, forecasting, payroll, human resources, strategic planning, budgeting, contract analysis, and working closely with the CPA firm on all related items.
This is an in-person position and not remote. The CFO must be in the office at least four days a week in Turlock, CA.
Position Functions and Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy & Leadership: Partnering with the CEO to develop financial models, long-term planning, and scenario planning.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process, monitor actual performance against forecasts, and manage cash flow.
Treasury: Managing cash flow, banking relationships, and partnerships with investment managers to ensure liquidity and operational efficiency. This includes processing investment disbursement requests and ensuring proper approval is obtained.
Accounting & Reporting: Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting and oversee all accounting systems. This includes partnering with the CPA firm on month-end reconciliations, monthly and quarterly financials, annual tax return preparation, and annual audit.
Compliance & Risk Management: In partnership with the CPA firm, ensuring compliance with tax regulations (e.g., IRS regulations for 501(c)(3) status), grant regulations, and implementing internal controls.
Grant/Donation Management: Managing financial reporting for grants and donations, ensuring restricted funds are used according to intent. High focus on tracking restricted vs. unrestricted funds.
Board Partnership: Attending board meetings to report on financial performance and strategic initiatives.
Financial Operations: Overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable, using QuickBooks Online and BILL.com.
HR Administration: Overseeing all payroll activities and providing payroll backup as needed. Oversee all activities from new hire to termination. Responsible for all employee benefits, including health insurance, workers' compensation, and retirement benefits. Oversee all employee leave management, including coordination with State leave programs.
· Governance and Operations: Maintain the corporate binder, updated with the Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, IRS Determination Letter, Board resolutions, and annual filings. Record and organize minutes for all board meetings, ensuring they are approved and safely stored. Implement the organization's document retention policy to ensure records are kept for required periods.
· Contract Management: Manage tracking of all business contracts, including new agreements, renewals, terminations, and transitions, in partnership with the CEO. Include evaluation of contract terms and reconciling billings against contract terms.
· Business Insurance: Manage business insurance policies in partnership with the CEO and insurance broker.
· Shared Services: Oversee shared services agreements and tracking, which includes quarterly review, monthly billbacks, and forecast changes based on business needs.
Education/Technical Qualification Required:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a business-related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
Experience: 10+ years of financial experience, with a significant portion in a nonprofit setting preferred. At least two years' prior experience as a corporate officer of an endowment, grant-making foundation, or community foundation with net assets of at least $10 million.
Skills: Proficiency in accounting software, strong analytical skills, exceptional communication, and experience with nonprofit tax compliance.
Mission Alignment: Understanding of nonprofit values, grantee and donor relations, and a commitment to the organization's cause.
