Assistant Controller

What Your Day Will Look Like
Consor Engineers is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the organization’s accounting operations, financial reporting processes, and internal control environment. Reporting directly to the Controller, this role will play a key leadership position within the accounting team, helping to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial information while supporting the continued growth and scalability of the business.
The Assistant Controller will oversee key accounting functions, contribute to an efficient and disciplined month-end close process, and collaborate across departments to drive financial accuracy and operational excellence. This individual will provide hands-on leadership to accounting staff, assist with financial reporting and audit activities, and help ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in accounting and financial management, along with a passion for continuous improvement. They will partner closely with leadership to strengthen processes, enhance reporting capabilities, and leverage modern finance technologies, including automation and AI-enabled tools, to improve efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making. What You'll Do
Supportandhelpleadthemonthly,quarterly,andannualcloseprocesses,ensuringtimelyandaccuratefinancialresults.
Reviewandapprovejournalentries,accountreconciliations,andsupportingschedulespreparedbyaccountingstaff.
AssistinmaintainingtheintegrityofthegeneralledgerandensuringcompliancewithGAAP,companypolicies,andregulatoryrequirements.
PartnerwiththeControllertostrengthenaccountingprocesses,internalcontrols,andcloseprocedures.
Prepareandreviewmonthlyfinancialstatements,varianceanalyses,andmanagementreportingpackages.
Analyzefinancialresultsandkeyperformanceindicatorstoidentifytrends,risks,andopportunitiesforimprovement.
Coordinatethepreparationofauditschedules,respondtoauditorinquiries,andassistinmanagingexternalauditactivities.
SupportcompliancewithGAAP,FAR,andestablishedinternalcontrolframeworks.
Assist with theimplementation,documentation,andmonitoringofaccountingpoliciesandprocedures.
Supportmergersandacquisitionsactivities,includingduediligenceeffortsandpost-acquisitionaccountingintegration.
Leveragefinancialsystems,includingDeltekVision/Vantagepoint,BlackLine,andotheraccountingtechnologiestoimproveaccuracyandefficiency.
Identifyandimplementprocessimprovements,automationopportunities,andAI-enabledsolutionstoenhancefinancialoperations.
Leadcontinuousimprovementinitiativesfocusedonscalability,standardization,andoperationalexcellence.
Supervise,mentor,anddevelopstaffaccountantsandaccountingspecialists,providingcoachingandperformancefeedback.
Establishclearexpectations,fosteraccountability,andpromoteacollaborative,high-performingteamculture.
PartnerwithFP&A,projectaccounting,operations,humanresources,andotherbusinessfunctionstosupportcompanyobjectives.
AssisttheControllerwithspecialprojects,strategicinitiatives,systemimplementations,andprocesstransformationefforts.
ServeasakeyresourceandbackuptotheControlleronaccounting,reporting,andcompliancematters.
What You'll Need
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA required
15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting and/or corporate accounting. AEC Industry experience is highly preferred.
Strong expertise in:
General ledger management
Month-end close processes
Financial reporting under US GAAP
Proven experience managing and reviewing accounting work.
Experience supporting external audits and internal controls compliance.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, data modeling, etc.)
Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
Strong understanding of accounting systems, data flows, and control
Experience with Deltek (Vision or Vantagepoint) and BlackLine
Exposure to government contracting / FAR compliance (preferred)
Experience with M&A transactions and integrations (preferred)
Familiarity with AI tools, RPA (robotic process automation), or advanced analytics in finance (preferred)
While performing the duties of this job, physical demands of the employee may include constantly sitting, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and occasional standing, moving, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, and coordination. This job will rarely require lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
