Head of Applications Engineering (AI Products)

Our client is building a next-generation AI product that helps millions of users complete everyday work through intelligent automation. Our platform combines large language models, long-running workflows, persistent memory, and real-world task execution to deliver reliable AI experiences at scale.
We're looking for a Head of Applications Engineering to lead the engineering organization responsible for turning AI capabilities into exceptional product experiences.
What You'll Do
Lead application engineering across backend, mobile, and desktop platforms
Build and grow a high-calibre team of senior engineers
Define architecture for AI-powered workflows, APIs, and client applications
Translate ML capabilities into reliable, production-ready product features
Drive technical decisions across scalability, latency, reliability, security, and cost
Establish clear ownership across engineering teams and maintain architectural consistency
Ensure production excellence through observability, monitoring, retries, fallbacks, privacy, and operational best practices
Balance rapid product delivery with long-term engineering quality
What We're Looking For
Proven experience leading application or product engineering teams
Strong hands-on backend engineering background with large-scale production systems
Experience building and shipping AI-powered products
Deep expertise in distributed systems, APIs, system architecture, and product engineering
Ability to make technical decisions under ambiguity
Comfortable working across backend, mobile, and desktop environments
Strong execution mindset with a passion for shipping high-quality products
Low ego, collaborative leadership style, and high technical standards
