Senior Cost Estimator

What We’re Looking For
HLCM is seeking an experienced Senior Cost Estimator to join our growing team in a remote position. We are looking for a highly motivated preconstruction professional who can independently manage projects from initial document review through completion of the estimate.
We are looking for more than someone who can perform takeoffs. The right candidate will be a self-sufficient preconstruction estimator who can take ownership of a project, understand the complete scope, develop comprehensive estimate pricing, communicate effectively with the project team, and carry the estimate through completion.

Key Responsibilities
Independently manage cost estimates from initial document review through final deliverable
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using On-Screen Takeoff (OST)
Develop conceptual, schematic design, design development, and construction document estimates
Review drawings and specifications to identify scope, constructability considerations, discrepancies, and potential cost impacts
Develop pricing using historical cost data, subcontractor/vendor input, and current market conditions
Prepare detailed estimates organized by CSI division and project scope
Perform estimate reconciliations and evaluate differences between estimates
Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, and potential project risks
Develop value engineering and cost-saving recommendations when appropriate
Coordinate with architects, engineers, owners, and other project stakeholders throughout preconstruction
Manage multiple estimates and deadlines with minimal supervision
Support and mentor junior estimators as needed
Participate in internal estimate reviews and QA/QC
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in construction cost estimating, preconstruction, or a related field.
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant construction estimating experience.
Strong background in preconstruction and construction cost estimating
Demonstrated ability to independently manage and complete estimates
Advanced proficiency with On-Screen Takeoff (OST)
Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, building systems, and construction means methods
Experience developing estimates at multiple stages of design
Ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop complete project pricing
Strong knowledge of construction costs, labor, materials, and subcontractor scopes
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Experience with public-sector, education, institutional, municipal, or similar projects is preferred
California construction estimating experience is preferred
