The Role
As a Costs Draftsperson, you will play a crucial role in handling a varied caseload and providing expert cost drafting and negotiation services. You will be responsible for:
Drafting bills of costs for a variety of case types, including Personal Injury (PI), Industrial Disease, Commercial Litigation, Clinical Negligence, and Credit Claims – to note, this isn’t an exhaustive list!
Drafting schedules of costs and preparing statements for trial.
Providing expert cost advice to clients on settlement recovery and technical issues.
Drafting and negotiating Costs Budgets (Precedent H) and preparing documentation for Costs and Case Management Conferences (CCMCs).
Attending CCMC/CMC hearings to handle advocacy regarding Cost Budgets and/or case directions.
Managing files using Proclaim (case management system) and Costs Master (cost drafting software).
Reviewing cases regularly and ensuring matters are progressed efficiently.
Meeting agreed performance targets, including daily chargeable time and yearly billing goals.

About You
To thrive in this role, you will need:
Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Costs Draftsperson (or similar role) within a legal costs firm or law firm.
Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with experience handling a varied caseload.
Experience in preparing and negotiating Costs Budgets (Precedent H) and attending CCMC/CMC hearings (desirable but not essential).
Proficiency in case management and cost drafting software, particularly Proclaim and Costs Master.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to advise clients and negotiate settlements effectively.
A proactive and self-motivated approach, with the ability to manage workloads independently while meeting targets.
