About the Role
You run design for the practice. The bar every screen is held to, the principles the team designs against, and the system they build from. You are also still the one who cracks the screen nobody else can.
The work
Discovery workshops. You facilitate the session that turns a vague client problem into a mapped journey, live, in front of their stakeholders.
Research direction. What gets validated, what gets assumed, what gets tested with five users before a demo. On a deal clock, making that call correctly is most of the job.
The taste bar for two to four designers. Every screen that reaches a client passes through you, and you name what is wrong in specifics. The team should predict your critique before they get it.
Design principles for AI products. How confidence is shown, when a human gets asked to intervene, what an override leaves behind. Documented so the practice stops re-deciding it every deal.
The design system and the reuse library. Components, states, tokens, plus the demo kits and accelerator UI that carry from one pursuit to the next.
Design QA. You review what engineering built against what you designed, and you get the gaps fixed.
The hardest screen on any project. You take the one nobody else can crack.
Scope calls. What is in v1 and what gets cut.
What you need
8+ years in product design, at least 3 running a team or owning a design function. Bonus points if you have founded a design agency.
Enterprise depth. Software where people sit inside for eight hours, and the edge cases are product ergonomics.
Decision speed. A design call that takes you three days has already cost the deal. You decide on 70% of the information and correct it in the next review.
AI fluency with a standard behind it. You use the tools to compress the work and you decide what the team is allowed to ship out of them. Speed is no excuse for a generic screen.
Visual command and system ownership. Type, grid, density, contrast, motion, and a design system you built that other people used without you in the room.
Product thinking. You argue about scope and sequencing with the same conviction you bring to spacing.
A portfolio where each case study opens with a business problem and closes with what changed.
You still make the artifact. The lead here has the highest output on the floor.
