Role Description The General Manager will oversee end-to-end operations of the container terminal, ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective service delivery in the Chennai on-site location. This full-time role includes managing daily terminal activities, supervising cross-functional teams, and monitoring key performance indicators related to throughput, turnaround time, and service quality. The General Manager will coordinate with clients, transport partners, and internal departments to optimize workflows, resolve operational issues, and maintain strong customer relationships. Responsibilities include budgeting, resource planning, process improvement, and compliance with all relevant safety, regulatory, and environmental standards. The role also involves mentoring team leaders, implementing strategic initiatives, and driving continuous improvement to support business growth and profitability.
Qualifications
Experience in terminal operations, logistics management, or transportation services, preferably in container or port environments.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams, including workforce planning, performance management, and stakeholder coordination.
Strong skills in operational planning, process optimization, and problem-solving to handle complex, time-sensitive activities.
Proficiency in using operational and reporting tools (e.g., terminal operating systems, ERP, or logistics management software).
Solid understanding of safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements within transportation and logistics sectors.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with clients, partners, and internal teams.
Proven experience in budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation to meet financial and operational targets.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field; an advanced degree or professional certifications in logistics or operations management are an advantage.
Ability to work on-site in Chennai and adapt to a fast-paced, operational environment with tight deadlines.
