Role Description The Tool Room Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai. In this position, the individual is responsible for maintaining, organizing, and issuing tools, dies, and equipment required for daily production activities. Typical tasks include inspecting tools for wear or damage, performing minor repairs and preventive maintenance, and ensuring tools are stored and labeled correctly. The role also involves tracking tool usage, updating inventory records, coordinating with production and maintenance teams to meet tooling requirements, and supporting continuous improvement in tool management processes. The technician is expected to follow safety standards, adhere to company procedures, and contribute to smooth and efficient plant operations.
Qualifications
Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in handling tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Ability to perform basic tool maintenance, minor repairs, and preventive checks using appropriate hand tools and measuring instruments.
Experience in tool room operations, including tool storage, identification, documentation, and inventory tracking.
Understanding of shop floor safety practices, housekeeping standards, and adherence to quality procedures.
Basic knowledge of machining or fabrication processes (e.g., milling, turning, grinding) is an advantage.
Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work systematically under time constraints.
Effective communication skills for coordinating with production, maintenance, and supervisory teams.
Ability to work on-site in Chennai and adapt to shift-based or extended hours as required by operations.
Diploma or certificate in Mechanical, Tool & Die, or related trade from a recognized institution is preferred.
Prior experience as a Tool Room Technician or similar role in manufacturing, automotive, or engineering industries is beneficial.
