Director of Government Affairs

Key Responsibilities
Develop and lead regional government affairs, public policy, and market development strategy supporting cloud and technical infrastructure growth across assigned states.
Manage and develop a team of regional leaders responsible for executing complex, cross-functional policy and market development initiatives.
Serve as a senior strategic advisor on state and local government affairs, infrastructure policy, economic development, and long-term market expansion.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with governors’ offices, state legislators, local elected officials, state agencies, permitting authorities, trade associations, and other key stakeholders.
Lead engagement strategies supporting complex, multi-year infrastructure investments, including site selection, permitting, economic development, and community engagement.
Shape and advance organizational positions on government procurement, energy, tax policy, permitting, infrastructure development, and other issues affecting business growth and investment.
Manage and coordinate external contract lobbyists, public affairs firms, and other government relations partners to advance policy objectives.
Monitor and analyze legislation, regulations, and local policy developments that could impact operations, investment, infrastructure development, or long-term growth.
Partner with technical, business, legal, policy, and infrastructure teams to align regional government affairs strategy with broader organizational priorities.
Develop coordinated engagement strategies that communicate the economic, social, and environmental benefits associated with major infrastructure investments.
Drive alignment across multiple internal and external stakeholder groups to advance complex projects and mitigate policy, regulatory, and development risks.
Provide leadership on high-profile government affairs initiatives requiring significant organizational influence, executive engagement, and long-term strategic planning.
Day to Day Responsibilities
Engage directly with state and local elected officials, government agencies, permitting authorities, community stakeholders, and industry organizations.
Advise senior leadership on government affairs, public policy, economic development, and infrastructure issues affecting assigned markets.
Lead and coordinate regional managers, contract lobbyists, consultants, and public affairs partners across multiple states and initiatives.
Track state legislation, regulatory developments, permitting requirements, tax policy, energy policy, and other issues affecting infrastructure investment.
Develop engagement plans for major infrastructure projects, including government outreach, permitting strategy, community engagement, and economic development initiatives.
Work closely with internal technical and infrastructure teams to understand project requirements and translate those needs into effective external engagement strategies.
Coordinate with legal, policy, communications, real estate, economic development, and business stakeholders on complex market development initiatives.
Develop briefing materials, policy positions, stakeholder strategies, and executive-level updates for senior leadership.
Represent the organization in meetings with government officials, industry associations, community leaders, and other external stakeholders.
Evaluate emerging political, regulatory, and policy risks and develop strategies to address potential impacts to projects and operations.
Support government procurement initiatives and engagement with public-sector stakeholders.
Maintain strong relationships across regional markets while balancing multiple projects, policy priorities, and stakeholder groups.
Preferred Experience and Attributes
15+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, economic development, infrastructure, technology policy, or related areas within government, industry, law, think tanks, public interest organizations, or industry associations.
Significant experience working directly with state and local governments.
Demonstrated leadership and people management experience, including the ability to lead regional teams and influence across complex organizations.
Experience developing and executing government affairs and public policy strategies across multiple states or markets.
Strong executive-level relationship management experience with the ability to engage credibly with senior government officials, business executives, and community leaders.
Experience supporting major infrastructure, economic development, or capital investment projects.
Experience navigating site selection, permitting, community engagement, and government relations associated with large-scale or heavy industrial development is strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of state and local policy issues related to infrastructure development, energy, taxation, permitting, economic development, and government procurement.
Experience managing contract lobbyists, public affairs firms, consultants, or other external government relations partners.
Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives involving technical, business, legal, government affairs, and external stakeholders.
Strong strategic judgment with the ability to identify policy and regulatory risks and develop long-term strategies supporting business growth.
Demonstrated ability to influence across organizational boundaries and drive alignment among stakeholders with different priorities.
Excellent executive communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience required.
Ability to travel up to 50%.
