Technical Lead

The Role
We're looking for a Tech Lead Manager to lead a small team responsible for a developer-facing platform, along with the tools, APIs, and processes that support the engineers and third-party developers who build on it. The team owns the APIs, SDKs, integration surfaces, and developer tools that enable partners to create applications and experiences, as well as the platform through which those applications are discovered, reviewed, and made available.
Technical Leadership & Hands-On Engineering
Provide technical leadership for the developer platform, establishing architecture, engineering standards, and technical direction.
Remain 30–50% hands-on on average throughout the year, with the balance flexing based on team size, organizational priorities, and project needs.
Write and contribute to production code when appropriate, particularly on high-impact or technically complex initiatives.
Design systems, services, APIs, and integration architectures with a focus on scalability, reliability, maintainability, and developer experience.
Participate in Architecture Review Board (ARB) discussions and help drive high-quality architectural decisions across the organization.
Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to engineers across the team.
Work directly with engineers to troubleshoot complex problems, evaluate tradeoffs, and unblock execution.
Lead the development and continued evolution of the developer SDK and supporting tools.
Team & People Leadership
Lead, manage, and develop a small team of engineers responsible for building and operating the developer platform.
Establish clear goals, priorities, and expectations while creating an environment where engineers can do their best work.
Coach and mentor engineers on technical decision-making, engineering practices, execution, and career development.
Help the team raise the bar for engineering quality, operational excellence, and ownership.
Participate in hiring, performance management, and organizational planning as the team evolves.
Platform & Product Leadership
Own the evolution of the platform's APIs, integrations, developer tools, and application ecosystem.
Own the app directory and associated workflows, including application discovery, review, approval, and publishing.
Partner closely with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business and developer needs into an actionable technical roadmap.
Bring product thinking to platform decisions, balancing developer experience, business priorities, reliability, and long-term scalability.
Create clarity in ambiguous problem spaces by connecting technical constraints, developer and partner needs, and business objectives.
Represent Engineering in conversations with external developers and partners and use that feedback to continuously improve the platform.
You Have
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Experience leading engineering teams as a people manager, technical lead, or Tech Lead Manager.
Experience building or leading a platform, API, developer tooling ecosystem, or other technology used by engineers or third-party developers.
Strong software engineering background with significant hands-on backend development experience.
Strong production experience with Python and demonstrated ability to contribute meaningfully to a Python-based codebase.
Experience with software architecture, system design, APIs, distributed systems, and scalable backend services.
Experience conducting code reviews, participating in architecture/design reviews, and making technical decisions across multiple services.
Ability and willingness to remain hands-on technically while also owning people management responsibilities.
Strong communication skills and experience partnering with Product, Design, and other cross-functional stakeholders to drive technical direction, roadmap planning, and execution.
Ability to define technical direction in ambiguous environments and translate broad goals into actionable plans for an engineering team.
A track record of mentoring engineers and helping teams raise the bar technically and operationally.
Bonus Points
Experience with developer platforms, SDKs, APIs, or third-party integrations.
Experience designing products where developers are the primary users.
Experience working with application marketplaces, directories, developer ecosystems, or partner platforms.
Experience with Go, TypeScript, or JavaScript in addition to Python.
Experience working with highly scalable, distributed, or consumer-facing systems.
Experience representing engineering externally with technical partners or developer communities.
