About the Winter 2027 Internship
We are particularly interested in a candidate with research interests or experience in one or more of the following areas:
Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
Function calling and tool-using language models
Document understanding, including PDF parsing and information extraction
Potential projects may explore methods for enabling large language models and AI agents to retrieve, interpret, and reason over complex documents; interact with external tools and structured data; and perform reliable, knowledge-intensive tasks.
The specific research project will be defined based on the intern's expertise and interests, as well as the research priorities of Megagon Labs. Our research emphasizes trustworthiness, explainability, robustness, and effective human-AI collaboration.
The internship will be conducted in person at our Mountain View, California office. The intern must be available to work full time for 12 weeks during the Winter 2027 term.
The applicant must have, or be able to obtain, appropriate U.S. work authorization for the internship period.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Research or practical experience in one or more relevant areas, such as large language models, natural language processing, natural language understanding, neural networks, machine learning, deep learning, graph representation learning, data management, data integration, human-computer interaction, human-in-the-loop AI, or a related field.
Proficiency in Python or another relevant programming language, with the ability to translate research ideas into working prototypes.
Experience designing experiments and evaluating research results.
Availability to work full time and in person at our Mountain View office for 12 weeks during Winter 2027.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to formulate research questions and independently design and execute a research plan.
Experience working with large language models, retrieval systems, agentic systems, or document-processing pipelines.
Experience with relevant frameworks, libraries, or APIs for developing and evaluating LLM-based systems.
Contributions to the research community, including publications at major conferences or in peer-reviewed journals.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively in a research-driven environment.
Intention to return to a degree program after completing the internship.
