Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a strategic and hands-on financial leader responsible for overseeing HPM’s financial strategy, planning, performance, and overall financial health. The CFO partners directly with the CEO, founder/owner, and senior leadership team to drive informed business decisions, support sustainable growth, and ensure strong financial performance.
This role combines executive-level financial leadership with hands-on involvement in financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, cash management, provider compensation, operational performance, and growth initiatives. The CFO will translate complex financial information into clear business insights and actionable recommendations while establishing financial discipline and accountability across the organization.
The ideal candidate is a commercially minded finance leader who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial healthcare environment and is willing to personally engage in the details when needed.
Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Executive Leadership
Serve as the primary financial advisor and strategic partner to the CEO, founder/owner, and senior leadership team.
Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy in alignment with organizational goals and long-term growth plans.
Provide executive leadership on financial performance, profitability, capital allocation, risk, and investment decisions.
Translate financial results and trends into clear business drivers, opportunities, risks, and recommended actions.
Establish financial goals, KPIs, reporting standards, and accountability measures across the organization.
Participate in executive leadership meetings, strategic planning, board meetings, and other key stakeholder discussions.
Financial Planning & Analysis
Lead the company’s annual budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and long-range planning processes.
Build and maintain detailed financial models to evaluate company performance, growth opportunities, and strategic initiatives.
Oversee monthly financial reporting, variance analysis, and performance reporting.
Develop executive dashboards and financial presentations that clearly communicate financial performance and business trends.
Analyze profitability by provider, service line, location, and other key business segments.
Identify opportunities for margin improvement, cost containment, productivity improvement, and scalable growth.
Ensure leadership has timely, accurate, and actionable financial information to support decision-making.
Accounting & Financial Operations
Oversee the company’s accounting and finance functions, including financial reporting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll coordination, cash management, and financial controls.
Partner with accounting leadership and external accounting partners to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Establish and maintain appropriate financial policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting processes.
Monitor cash flow, working capital, liquidity, and overall financial position.
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and financial regulations.
Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements and other required financial reporting.
Provider Compensation & Operational Finance
Lead financial analysis of provider compensation models, productivity metrics, incentives, and profitability.
Partner with clinical and operational leadership to evaluate provider performance and compensation structures.
Analyze operational performance and identify financial opportunities across locations and service lines.
Develop financial models to support compensation decisions, new programs, staffing strategies, and operational changes.
Growth, Acquisitions & Strategic Initiatives
Evaluate acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, new markets, and other growth opportunities through detailed financial modeling, ROI analysis, and risk assessment.
Lead or support financial due diligence for acquisitions and strategic partnerships.
Support integration planning and post-acquisition financial performance monitoring.
Evaluate capital investments and other major business decisions to ensure alignment with company objectives and financial goals.
Identify opportunities to improve the scalability and financial sustainability of the organization.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
Serve as a trusted financial partner to leaders across operations, clinical, people, sales, education, and other departments.
Build financial understanding and accountability throughout the organization.
Communicate financial concepts clearly to non-financial leaders and provide practical recommendations.
Collaborate cross-functionally to improve data accuracy, reporting, forecasting, and business performance.
Develop and lead a high-performing finance function as the organization grows.
Other Responsibilities
Respond to ad hoc financial, analytical, and strategic requests in a fast-paced, founder-led environment.
Maintain a hands-on approach to financial analysis and decision support rather than operating solely as a delegating or advisory executive.
Travel on behalf of the company as needed, with a minimum expectation of 25% travel as directed by the CEO.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Demonstrated ability to lead the financial function of a growing organization while remaining personally engaged in critical financial analysis and decision-making.
Strong executive presence and the ability to communicate financial information clearly and confidently to non-financial leaders.
Ability to translate complex financial information into concise, actionable business recommendations.

Strong business acumen and understanding of the relationship between financial performance and operational performance.
Consistent delivery of accurate, timely, and reliable financial information.

Strong judgment and discretion when handling confidential financial and business information.
Minimum Qualifications
Advanced expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, cash flow management, and financial controls.
Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
Strong executive communication and presentation skills, with experience presenting to CEOs, founders, boards, investors, or other senior stakeholders.
Experience with provider compensation structures, productivity metrics, and incentive-based compensation preferred.
Experience evaluating acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, or other complex financial arrangements.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound financial recommendations in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to travel on behalf of the company with a minimum requirement of 25% as directed by the CEO.
Experience
10+ years of progressive experience in finance, FP&A, accounting, corporate finance, or related financial leadership roles.
Prior experience serving as a CFO, VP of Finance, Controller, or senior finance leader strongly preferred.
Experience working directly with a Founder/Owner or within a closely held, entrepreneurial, or growth-oriented organization required.
Experience in healthcare, professional services, or other provider-driven business models strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience supporting business growth, acquisitions, strategic initiatives, and operational decision-making.
Proven track record of hands-on financial leadership rather than solely managerial or advisory experience.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field required.
MBA, CPA, CFA, or similar advanced credential preferred.
