Technical Delivery Lead

Position Description

As a Technical Delivery Lead, you’ll shape opportunities, set technical direction and guide a highly capable team from problem discovery through prototype, MVP and pilot. Remaining close to the engineering, you’ll have the autonomy to make pragmatic decisions, explore innovative uses of cloud, data and AI, and build trusted relationships with clients and operational users. Supported by CGI’s wider community of experts, you’ll develop engineers, establish effective ways of working and help grow a capability that turns promising ideas into secure, scalable solutions with lasting impact.

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position.
Your future duties and responsibilities
In this hands-on technical leadership role, you will work directly with clients and operational users to understand complex challenges, shape opportunities and define the smallest useful solution needed to test an idea. You’ll take ownership of technical direction across architecture, software, cloud, integration, data and AI, leading engineers through the delivery of prototypes, MVPs and pilots while contributing hands-on engineering expertise where it can accelerate progress.
You’ll create an environment where engineers have the autonomy and support to experiment, learn and deliver at pace while maintaining the standards required in public safety. You’ll use evidence to challenge assumptions and make pragmatic decisions around security, quality, scalability and commercial value. You will also help establish the standards, culture and ways of working that enable the Technical Delivery capability to grow and successfully transition proven solutions into longer-term CGI delivery.

Lead & Engineer – Set technical direction while remaining hands-on where your expertise can unblock or accelerate delivery.
Architect & Integrate – Guide decisions across software architecture, cloud, APIs, integration, data and AI.
Prototype & Deliver – Lead multidisciplinary teams through prototypes, MVPs and client pilots.
Innovate & Experiment – Apply AI and emerging technologies where evidence demonstrates genuine client or operational value.
Decide & Own – Balance delivery speed with technical risk, security, quality, scalability and commercial considerations.
Coach & Empower – Develop Technical Delivery Engineers, creating autonomy, encouraging continuous learning and setting high standards.
Engage & Influence – Build trusted relationships with client, operational and CGI stakeholders and contribute to workshops, demonstrations and early-stage opportunities.
Transition & Scale – Create clear routes for successful solutions to move into longer-term CGI delivery.
Learn & Improve – Capture lessons, develop reusable approaches and continuously strengthen the Technical Delivery model.
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
You should bring a strong software engineering background combined with proven technical leadership and client-facing experience. You’ll need the credibility to move comfortably between senior stakeholder conversations, architecture decisions and hands-on technical challenges, creating direction even when requirements are incomplete. You should demonstrate curiosity and sound judgement, empowering engineers to succeed while drawing on CGI’s collaborative expertise to continuously improve solutions, teams and your own capabilities.
Strong software engineering background, with significant hands-on experience building and deploying working solutions.
Proven technical leadership, including coaching, mentoring or leading software engineers.
Experience designing and deploying modern applications and cloud solutions.
Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, systems integration and modern engineering practices.
Experience with Microsoft Azure or a comparable cloud platform.
Practical experience with generative AI, LLMs or other AI-enabled applications.
Proven experience taking ideas from concept through prototype or MVP towards real-world use.
Strong client-facing capability, with confidence engaging and influencing senior stakeholders.
Proven ability to lead through ambiguity, establish direction and make decisions without waiting for complete requirements.
Strong technical and commercial judgement, balancing pace, security, quality, risk and business value.
Ability to challenge assumptions and adapt direction when evidence indicates a different approach will deliver better outcomes.
Experience with OpenAI or Azure OpenAI, RAG, AI agents, automation, data engineering, computer vision, SQL or AI-assisted development would be advantageous.
Experience working with prototypes, MVPs, public sector organisations or regulated environments would also be beneficial.
